Toolbar issue

For some reason a couple of days ago my toolbar and menus got reset. No idea why, but other settings did not seem to change (though to be honest I didn't check).

Earlier today I upgraded Calibre to the latest official version.

A few minutes ago I was adding back some of the buttons I needed, when it came up with some sort of Python error - which I didn't note. And when I went to look at the toolbar the only button I now have is the Add Books one.

So now I don't have any way to bring back the preferences functionality in order to try to add back the buttons.

HELP!!!!

How do I reset the buttons again, preferably without losing all my other settings?

Ah - I closed Calibre and reopened it, and toolbar was OK again. Phew.

Something, most likely an anti-virus thing, is interfering with calibre operations.

Have a look at the relevant entries in Frequently Asked Questions: Miscellaneous

Nothing in the FAQ about it. And being a techie myself, I think it was Calibre making a call that QT didn't like.

Three million active users are not experiencing such behaviour, this board would light up like a Christmas tree if they did.

Perhaps - but I have sufficient technical skills to no without a doubt that the error message was from QT about a widget and was highly unlikely to be anything related to my AV / firewall.

Wow I've been programming with python and Qt for over a decade and half a million lines of code and I dont have the technical skill to make categorical statements like that.

But regardless, since you didn't bother to note the actual error, do you expect us to fix it by divining what it might be, by magic?

Confess — you are a writer for The Onion, aren't you? Thanks for the tech humor.

But you lack the courtesy to post the error message to enable diagnosis by the developer, and you appear to be unaware of the difference between no and know Ψ
