Book in drive folder but not showing in library

I had polished some books and obviously an epub and an orig_epub resulted. I searched the epub_orig and deleted all of them but that deleted the epub files as well. Now ehen I see books on my drive in folder but not showing in library> If I add each from the epub on drive it shows two files how to fix it?

You MESSED beneath the skirts using the OS and left a mess as Calibre had logged what files were there.

It would have been very simple to have Calibre do that task.
(In the Tag Browser) Formats:<select 'the original...'>: Select All results (ctrl-a): Right-click: Remove Files of a specific format from selected books:<select one format>

BTW There is a Tweak to stop the creation of those files, but I don't recommend a Newbie do that till they have made (and learned from) mistakes

Sorry, it has been a while since I had to recover a Library. You might try and run (right click the Library Icon) Library Maintenance: Restore Database ( If you run CHECK, it will tell you how bad it currently IS )

That will rebuild closer to what it finds (Assumes you did not delete the OPF files that are in each titles folders. those were the backup of the boos metadata ENTRY). I also believe that checks for what formats are currently present.

Theducks I had actually deleted exactly the same way as you are saying I selected formats and deleted just the ones showing as orig_epub but still they went missing??

When I go to folder and try to add the msg does come it already exists in library, but when I search for author it does not show up

The 2 messages implies you have a 'View' filter in place.
Add looks at the entire DB to generate the message. Search respects a Virtual Library.

Be sure All Books is where you are searching (Look at the Left side of the search bar. Click: It should say None next to the tick))
