H2O2 v1 vs. H2O2 v2

Hi all,

i just received my new H2O2 and by checking for FW update i have seen that its one of the "old" models. The serialnumber is N8678101... and the initial FW 4.4.9298.

Is the new CPU better then the old one? Especially if i think about the next years. Would you recommend me to send the reader back and hope to get next time a "new" one with Mark 7? Often its like new CPU = better/faster/longer support but is this true in this case?

Greetings,
Mathias

There isn't any real evidence that the new CPU is better for these devices. I don't think anyone has compared the two versions for the Aura H2O Edition 2 side-by-side or even had both available to them. The people getting the Clara HD have been saying they seem fast. But, is that just the CPU or something about the overall design?

If you are worried about how long Kobo will support the older version of the device, don't. Kobo are still putting out firmware for all three versions of the Touch. They have skipped a few versions for different devices over the years, but that is mainly while concentrating on a new device.

As to the likelihood of sending it back and getting one of the newer devices, it probably depends on where you got it. Most places would buy a batch of them and get a new batch when they are running out. Each batch would be only one version. And they would try to get rid of the older one first. To me that would make it unlikely that if you were getting the original version from a shop that the next day they would have the later version.

My H2O Ed. 2 is a Mark 7. It doesn't feel quite as responsive as the Clara HD. So I don't think it is worth exchanging to get a newer model, and you might end up with worse contrast or something else in the exchange. It is better to just be happy with what you have.

i think the performance is a like and think they only changed chip brands to cut down cost or save more money so in the end they both will perform a like

Do you read comic books on both devices? Do you think if H2O 2 does a better job? How do you feel Clara HD more responsive?

Your opinions are really appreciated.

If you still have both, haydnfan, would you mind sharing a photo of the Clara on top of the H2O? I have a Clara and love it, but am still considering an H2O for the bigger screen. I'd love a clear idea of the size difference

I don't want to miss the larger screen anymore. I changed from Glo HD to Aura H2O. 6.8 inch is the perfect screen size. It's large but not too large. I can still put it in the pocket of my jeans (backside) or my jacket. So, good compromise between reading comfort and mobility.

Thanks Dirk. Now that I have a clear sense of the dimensions, I am VERY tempted by the H2O 2 - the extra screen size for a m anageable increase in overall dimensions is a big draw

I do like the 6.8" screen of the H2O better than a 6" screen. Once you read with a 6.8" screen, going back to 6" is not an option.

I tend to hold my reader (if I hold it) in my weaker, hemiparetic right hand. So size and weight matter. But the H2) is no heavier than my old PW2, and if I get a stand cover, I think I can easily adjust. Fewer page turns does really apeal

Then why did I got a Glo HD after my H2O and use it exclusively until I got an Aura ONE? And after giving that to my wife, going back to the H2O, why did I end up back with the Glo HD until I got a Clara HD?

Personally, I found the H2O bulky for it's size. The Aura ONE felt a lot sleeker and usable. The Glo HD and Clara HD fit very nicely in my hands and have plenty enough text on the screen for me to read.

Now, the question is, what will the Forma feel like? And, more importantly, how do I answer the question, "Why do you need another ereader?"

"Personally, I found the H2O bulky for it's size." - I did note in the dimensions listing that it's thicker than others. I am thinking I'll get one, try it out against the Clara and decide which reader to keep and which to flog off on ebay. Keeping both is unlikely to be an option for me, I suspect.
