Metadata plugboard stopped working

So I had set up the plugboard to properly add series info to my books before sending them to the Kindle Fire HD 8 (see attached image) but now the plugboard has stopped running so all that series info is missing (see image).

The third image is of the existing plugboard. Please tell me how to make the plugboard work permanently.

3rd image says you have 'A' plugboard, not what it does. For that, you need to select the plugboard: click edit (which populates the right side). Then we can see what in your screen capture

But I suspect it is the MTP device
What does Calibre say at the bottom whe the device is attached?
Change that MTP... to that

Actually it does show that the currently attached device is the MTP_DEVICE

Uh! Where. There is no status line in any of those shots.

The mention of MTP is just a configured plugboard

MTP device is correct for the Kindle Fire HD. Hwever make sure you are sending azw3 not mobi to the device, since your plugboard is for azw3 only. Do a conversion to azw3 before sending.

I am converting to azw3. Any idea why the plugboard worked for a while and then stopped?

Check the preferred order on the device driver.
If you have a compatible format that is higher (and ticked) on the list than the AZW3, Calibre will send that.

With the device connected: on the device icon (only appears when connected): right-click: configure device

You can run calibre in debug mode and look at the log when sending a book. (right click the preferences button)

I'm running 3.32 on a Mac but there's no preferences button to right click on.

Never mind, I figured out that I have to add Preferences to the main toolbar.

OK , it's weird but everything is working again. I deleted the books from the Fire that hadn't been converted properly, then re-loaded them and this time it worked.
