a change I can not explain

I have a Kobo Aura One.
I convert books in Calibre to epub after completing the metadata etc and then I upload the books to my Kobo, again using Calibre.
The last 3 ebooks that were handled as above now have the booktitle on top of the page, and in the bottom menu bar there is now (second from right) a little bar graph which gives me info about the chapter I am reading. All my other books before these last 3 do not have this.
What changed either in Kobo's setup or in Calibre I wonder.

it sounds like you have sent those 3 books to the Kobo Aura One in the kepub format rather than epub. hopefully it won't too long before someone better equipped with Calibre than i helps you out.

What is not in doubt is that these 'last 3 books' have been transferred from calibre to Kobo as kepubs, not standard epubs. As for why ...

Maybe your calibre library contains both a kepub and an epub for these books and your calibre driver (KoboTouch or KoboTouchExtended) 'File Formats' tab is configured to send kepub with a higher priority than send epub.

Or, maybe you're using the KoboTouchExtended calibre driver and you've configured the Extended tab (by checking the 'Enable Extended Kobo Features' box) to format-shift epub to kepub during the calibre send-to-device process.

Thanks Koboy and Jackie_w. Not long ago I indeed installed the kobotouchextended plugin because I had problems with my collections on the KA1. Probably around the same time as these 3 ebooks I mentioned. I de-installed the plugin and now with only the kobotouch plugin active, the problem (if problem it was) is solved. I am grateful for your help!

Just a comment on this. Most of the function you see in the KoboTouchExtended plugin is actually from the KoboTouch plugin. That includes the collection management. If you have problems with one of them, you will have exactly the same problems with the other if they are configured the same. It is basically only what is on the last tab of the KoboTouchExtended plugin that is specific to it. The only other difference I can think of for the other functions is the KoboTouchExtended driver can get the stylesheet for the "Modify ePub" function from a location on the computer.

To be frank David, I do not understand all you're saying. Fact is that when both plugins were active (they were configured the same) the 'problem' was there. I de-installed the KoboTouchExtended plugin and the 'problem' wasn't there anymore. I didn't change anything else.

The problem is BOTH plugins active, I think. If you only have one of them, it's the same which one you choose.

That was probably it. It is OK to have both installed, but only one should be enabled.
