Exclamation Anyone Still Own a Kobo Mini?

Hello MobileRead community!

I own a Kobo Mini and I really love it.

I bought it about a month ago, refurbished, from eBay.

So far so good. I love it!

I was just wondering if any of you guys still had a Mini somewhere.

If you do, do you know any hacks / tweaks / cool stuff you can do on it?

I have Night Mode on mine.

Really helpful when reading at night.

Anyway, have a nice day!

I have two Kobo Minis, and I use them both frequently. Lovely device.

I know, right?

Sad that Kobo dropped support...years ago.

Everyone moved on to the new, 6" devices and the Mini is completely forgotten.

I still have a Mini that I bought when they came out. Do still use it occasionally but the battery doesn't hold its charge like it did and I sometimes get an issue where it goes into sleep mode and won't re-awake (usually have to plug it into the PC to trigger it to respond).

Nice machine though.

According to a Russian eReader site, this is the battery that replaces the one that came with the Kobo Mini. (You have to solder on the ends from the old battery.)

Nice.

But I don't know if my Mini's battery still has the same performance it used to have, as I bought it a month ago (refurbished) from eBay.

How long is the battery supposed to last, anyway?

I don't know. I've got some "ancient" Sonys from 2007-08 that still have good batteries. My Mini came from Shop Goodwill and that battery seems strong. I think a lot of used readers were bought and never used. So, if the battery hasn't been left without charging for too long, it's still basically "new" in a lot of cases. (I realize a battery doesn't stay "new" even if it's unused, but it's "newer" than a battery that was used constantly.)

I think the official estimate when it came out was about 14 hours with WiFi off (or, as they put it, a month assuming 30 minutes of use per day).

I do! Like you, I bought mine refurb on eBay and love how compact and weightless it is. However being a 6 year old reader it does feel dated. Wish Kobo would make a Mini 2...I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Kobo said they are seriously considering a Mini 2 for 2020.

Yeah, a device 6 year old feels old, but I manually updated mine to firmware version 4.9.11314, so now it feels newer

I can send you instructions if you want to manually update and don't know how to.

Yes. Tried that a few times. The last time I did it it was to make sure I was on the last OTA firmware rather than a later one I'd sideloaded.

To be honest I don't use it as much any more. If I did I might spend more time investigating.

It probably needs a new battery.

That would be great, anything to bump up the performance would be welcome
