Calibre lags on Windows 10 Home
Hi.
In the weekend I installed Calibre on my new computer and went from Windows 7 to Windows 10 Home, both 64-bit When I added my libraries back the way they were on windows 7 everything lags, even the smallest library with 250 books/stories. It takes more than double the time to download the fanfiction via FanFicFare or update when it's downloaded. I have 16 gb of RAM, installed the 64-bit Calibre. Can anyone help me clear this up? Thanks so much |

It will be faster when you exclude calibre folder and libraries form AV scans. Since they add all these permanent scan's systems slows down on these kinds of additional overhead traffic.
In the end I switch my library management for mass data activities to a Linux system as it pointed out for my use cases that it was faster than on actual windows systems with same hardware. |

The Linux option is not possible for me.
I'll have a look at my virus-scanner. |

You may also want to turn off the search indexing for the calibre library folder, if it is on.

Indeed, search index is a good point too. Good point.
You can easily switch this on and off per cmd script. REM Stop Windows search sc config WSearch start= disabled net stop WSearch REM Start Windows search sc config WSearch start= auto net start WSearch |

Is it possible to only disable it for the Calibre library?

You can define on what places WS looks for indexing, but this maybe make in the end no sense because of finding documents in general within windows.
Having the opportunity to switch it on and of gives you the freedom to have both: a little bit more speed when you need it and after you finish your work starting the service again and let Windows search update the index in the background. You can make two batch files to switch it on and of or you can start calibre via one batch script (stop WS -> start calibre and doing your work -> stop calibre -> start WS) if you have bigger jobs to do with the libraries. That's maybe a better way |

Could it have something to do with windows having to re-read the library? It's not the same folder as it was on the old computer.

Yes it can - especially if you move a big library to a new system. Windows update the index as background task with lower priority. You can check this with Task manager and Resource manager

Ok, then I'll return if the problem still exists in a week or so
![]() Thanks for the help so far. I ended up installing a different version of AV without a lot of extras, that might have helped as well. |

Control Panel->Indexing Options will show status
I run 2 AVs (Defender and Malwarebytes) and 2 Search Indexers (Windows Search (WS) and X1). I do not exclude anything from the AV scanners, and all my data folders (including calibre libraries) are included in the indexers. My textual ebooks either have DOCX, PDF or both formats. DOCX and PDF get completely indexed by WS and X1, which is why I keep the DOCX/PDF formats. I experience no significant delays. BR |

Is there a setting in Calibre where I'm not using all the CPU?

I added search file extensions for epub files which work reasonable well as epub are just text files (within a zip container). See attachment. |
