USB-C
Are there any Eink devices which charge using USB-C?
For some reason, I'm not finding any! I just want to use the same charger as my phone and not have worry about dongles or adapters 😃 |

None to my knowledge, unfortunately! Maybe when the newest Kindles come out, but I'm a bit cynical on this.

Kindle should recognize that you cannot have a flagship or premium device with an out-dated, inferior USB-micro port instead of USB-c.

most people will already have lots of usb -B ports and chargers though, so the USB C device becomes the odd one out.
I learned the hard way that I had no usb C <-> USB cables in the house - I'd bought a refurbished Yoga 3 tablet which uses USB C and the idiot sellers shipped it with an incorrect cheap usb -b charger & cable. So I had a tablet, with a bit of juice in its battery, but absolutely no way to test it properly or charge it until I was able to get amazon to ship me a USB-C. Then in the stress of sorting that, I ordered a USB B by mistake so when my next day prime package arrived I had to send it back & start over..... finally I got the missing bits and have to say the USB C goes in with a satisying click and no hassle about is it the right way up . Though the lenovo android tablet still tells me it would prefer a fast charger , even though I have 2 makes of 2 amp ones. Turns out that Lenovo have a proprietary fast charge solution that only works with Lenovo brand chargers, and no one, not even Lenovo, sell spare Lenovo chargers... I also learned in the process, from Google & friends, that a cheap USB C connection can burn out a PC or TV usb2 port , or damage a motherboard very easily, by asking for too much current. So if the OP does get a USB 3 device, and plans to sometimes charge via USB 2 on PC , be very careful to get branded and built-to-spec cables for that. I am charging my new tablet via the same dedicated USB C cable into an amazon fast charger and never connecting directly to PC, just to be safe. I recommend reading up on fast charge standards , or lack of.... before assuming one charger will play nicely with all devices. it may be low tech - but sticking " this side up" coloured blobs onto my micro usb cables works for me Last edited by stumped; 08-29-2018 at 02:05 PM. |

Readers don't need USB-C. Micro USB will do perfectly well. As has been said, you get USB-C and you'll have to make 100% sure you buy good quality cables. Even some branded cables have had problems. So do you really want USB-C and risk your Reader? I don't.

My tolino epos definitely doesn't have a USB C socket. What it does have is a cable where the shape of the Micro USB plug has been tweaked so that it is can go in either way. The socket in the device is the usual shape. The cable works with all the other devices I have that have a Micro USB socket.

I'm a bit nervous about the durability of the cable. The USB-A end has a thin plate that moves when the cable is plugged in where the standard USB-A has a much thicker and non-moving plate. See the attached image.

I think I'll just stick with the regular micro USB cables. Maybe as I get older and more senile I'll have trouble with them, but at this point I'm not having any issues.

I find, for myself, it is quite easy to tell which way up a micro USB connecter is, even in the dark. The bottom sharp corners to me feel much sharper when pressed with a finger than the upper rounded corners do.
It even works with the very few connectors I have come across that have the USB logo on the bottom ![]() ![]() Has never failed to work for me, but I am sure there are some around who will find otherwise (or who cannot remember their up from down). |
