Diesel Ebooks repost. BAD INVESTMENT

All,
in addition and responce to
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11094
I too purchased several books from Diesel Ebooks.
the Purchase Transaction went without a hitch.
I Dl'd them straight away.
(My System is a MAC running OS X Quad Xeon etc....)
I Backed up my Downloads twice (2 locations)
I purposely deleted one title from my bookshelf.
and tried to restore from my backup.
and it would no longer work. (msg saying I must re-down load.)
I tried several attempts with both backups. finally resorted to re-downloading
the DL worked. now I was worried I may not have a full safe backup. I continued to investigate the backup. so I removed the same title again.
and got the same results.
I called Adobe tech support.: there responce was
"ON a MAC you can not have a functional/or working backup.
Or software though it may read and open a DRM'd doc it will not allow backups".
Which brings me to my responce to the previous post.
After working with Adobe I had exceeded my Download attempts with Diesel
I knew in advance there was a limit.(Imposed by the Vendor not Diesel)
I also knew this number could be reset Also advertised by Diesel and most ebook dealers.
I emailed Diesel and asked that My download be reset back to Zero.
that was 10 days ago. I made more than several attempts to reach Diesel.
Email Direct to Support and Marketing, As well as filled out their Online forms.
All resulting in "NO ANSWER" and thats BAD CUSTOMER SUPPORT!!!
I dont care how you dice and slice it. BAD SUPORT IS BAD for a companies Image. Did I mention they even advertise they will reset your DL;s back to Zero if you contact them?
So Even if you have a BACKUP your not guaranteed to be SAFE.
DIESEL EBOOKS == BAD INVESTMENT

Why would you purchase any ebook format that does not allow a backup to be made? That seems just silly.

When you checked your email, did you check your spam filters in your email program and on the website (of the email service) to see if the message had been taken as spam?

I've occasionally had to go into the website at gmail or Comcast and retrieve valid email.

Lack of customer support (continues)

I would not purposely by a book that does not allow me to have a backup.
I investigated Diesel as well as other vendors they all claim they will allow you to Dl as many times as necessary.

Im an old Windows user... Recentlly switched to a MAC. about a year now.
and didnt know you could not backup a DRM'd (Adobe) as of now.

When a vendor says they allow re downloading or resetting of a download.
then FRANKLY "Why would you need a backup... IF a Vendor has reasonable customer support/service and allows the download to be reset. then as long as the customer is willing to go thru the process. then again why even have a backup?

conversely I have a 1.2 Terabyte Backup Server I use Daily. So Im no stranger to "BACKUPS." and believe a backup should be done on all/any important files etc....

The issue I really have here is not my backup failing....
or the lack of MAC support on Adobes part.
its the LACK of any responce from DIesel.

And, Yes I did check my spam filters. they just have not gotten back to me.
Plain and simple.
(I got all the mailing when I paid and the link to download etc....)
And If i did not find a place to complain or rant
they probably never will. And if they do then what about that poor customer thats still waiting for them to get back to them?
and does not know how to find a forum such as this to find further support?
typically when i have an issue with say "new egg" I cont them , they respond we play vollyball till the issue is resolved. I dont resort to contacting everyone else first. now had they never gotten back to me I will resort to CALLING them. then I will complain and rant etc..

I also seen where plenty of other people have had the same experiance as I.
Poor service or even worse.. NO SERVICE!

ok I gone on long enough.
disgruntled customer.
Sam
BTW: Thanks for the comment Jon. (really ! )

To be honest, I find PaperbackDigital and BooksOnBoard to have the lowest prices.

I have purchased one book from Diesel (they were the only place I could find it) and their service was wonderful when the wrong book downloaded. I sent one email and they responded in minutes. I remember the whole thing from original order through problem resolution and download being less than 30 minutes.

Exclamation Good (BoB) vs Bad (Diesel) experiences.

Rwood,
Im pleased to hear you had a good experiance with Diesel
in a perfect world issues like mine would not exist.
but in reality.
look here. (Im not the only one with a LACK of support)
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...ghlight=diesel
its terrible if one has to resort to contacting the owner directly to get some form of resolution. :/

JSWolf,
I did some pre-search on the company Books on Board.
even tried to contact them.
WOW great Pre Support and response time. had I known today Pre Diesel I would have bought their. Did I mention their Prices were significantly less?
Geez...Thanks for Tip

Glad you found BooksOnBoard a good experience. I've never had an issue with any ebook store as of yet. But I've found in general if I want MS Reader format, I'll go there as the prices are lower then some of the other shops.

Well, since the new Terry Pratchett book is out and I wanted to buy it as mobipocket file I went to booksonboard.
They have the book.
I registered.
When I try to log into the account after registration I the "Cookies not enabled" warning.
My cookies ARE enabled, I can even see the booksonboard cookies in my cookies collection...
I rerequested Username and Password, just to see whether that might help.
Know what happened?
Never received an email. The email address I gave them was correct, so that can't be it.
I'll check my SPAM filters and then I'll go buy somewhere else...

UPDATE: it wasn't eaten by the Google Spamfilter...I guess something went wrong with the website.

UPDATE2: I actually tried IE as well and it also does not work. Same error.

UPDATE3: They just got back to me (I sent them a message asking what's wrong) and told me it was a server issue. It is now fixed. I guess i'll be able to buy my book now...

On a sidenote...I saved quite alot of money on this book purchase:

The Hardcover in a local bookstore here in Germany would have been 26€.
I paid 15$ for the book and the dollar-euro ratio PayPal gave me was 1.38...this means I save another 38% bringing the price down almost to paperback levels. That's what ebooks should cost anyway if they come out at the same time as the Hardcover editions...at least in my opinion...

OK, to sum this up I can give Booksonboard.com a recommendation.
They had a server problem (that can happen), but apart from that they were very quick and polite. Price was also fine, especially if you calculate it in Euro...

And I did check out a couple of other ebook shops and they did not have this title in stock. The Connect Store was not one of them since this was wanted in Mobi format.

Yes, that was one of the reasons why I did not buy it somewhere else immediately...and I'm actually glad I had to wait...

I agree, even if they are cheep, which i don't think so, anyone with a customer service so pathetic should be avoided as a principle, i wish there were some review board or something where you can black list the website.

Angry Diesel Ebooks

I am a very avid reader. I normally read paper books. My first Ebook was purchased from Diesel Ebooks a few days ago. It has been a terrible experience and I am considering just sticking with paper books. I downloaded my book without problem. However after reading half of the book the Adobe Digital Editions icon turned into a generic icon and book would not open. I reloaded Adobe Reader and Digital Editions but then could not open the book. I tried to redownload the book but kept getting this oops......... message when trying to download from my bookshelf. I contacted their customer support and that has been a far less than satisfying experience. I don't even think they read my problem and just send a response that they see I have downloaded my book and everything's peachy. So here's my question. Is Diesel Ebooks a particularly crappy company or is this the norm? I don't mind wasting ten dollars but the frustration of this experience is turning me off Ebooks in general. I really want to read this book so I'll just order it from Amazon. Can anyone recommend a reputable Ebook company with a wide selection that might change my mind about giving up on the Ebook idea?

I see you're reading on a PC. Maybe Mobipocket.com will have the book you're looking for. If so, you can purchase the book there then download their desktop reader for free.

And since you're going to Amazon anyway, check to see if your book is available in a Kindle version, if so you might want to think about buying a Kindle (if most of the types or titles of books you like are available on Amazon).
