PRS-505 and PRS-700

Looking at the feats of the PRS-700 on page:
http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...52921665562069

I see Sony mentions something like:

1- Search, annotation, and highlighting capabilities (on the 700)

The Reader Digital Book features annotation, highlighting, and search applications that heighten your reading experience. You can easily make annotations in your digital book with the virtual keyboard or highlight text you want to remember by selecting it with a stylus pen or with the touch of your finger. You can even search for text on your Reader with the virtual keyboard or by highlighting text.

2- Adjustable text sizes (on the 700)

The Reader Digital Book allows you to zoom in and out as well as adjust the text into 5 different sizes.

I could not find those feats on the 505's feat sheet.
Can anyone confirm if the 505 can do these things or not?

I'm starting to think the LED and touchscreen isn't the only improvement on the 700 series, and I want to make sure if the extra options are worth the extra $100.

Item 1 is 700 only. Item 2, the 505 has 3 font sizes, then 700 has 5, two additional larger ones.

The 505 has Small, Medium, Large
The 700 has Small, Medium, Large, X Large, 2X Large (not sure if they have Husky).

The "small" size on both devices will be the base font size set in the specific ebook that you are reading.

thanks for confirming that!

Any idea or the Search, annotation, and highlighting capabilities will be used a lot?

The annotation certainly seems something interesting,if it doesn't cost too much battery life.
highlighting I doubt I'd use that a lot.
but the search feat.. I know there are many people using other ebook devices that have this feat.

I guess I can write a new topic about if they 'search' a lot.

I think that is different for each person. Personally, I have never used highlight or annotate, even though they exist on my Kindle. However, I think Elsi said she uses highlight/annotate all the time.

I do use search... but generally to find a book or author in the feedbooks download guide file rather than to find information that I think is in a book. Also, the Sony video shows them searching withing a book... which to me is useless... the Kindle's search can work in a book or in the library.

I don't use the search or annotation features very often (almost never) -- I figure if I really need to search I can do it on the PC side -- so for me, they're mostly bragware.

However, there are a lot of folks who seem to have a great deal of use for those features, so I think pilotbob has the right of it: it really depends on whether the user, wants/needs those features.

It definitely depends on the person. I am currently only reading novels on my Reader, but would most certainly transfer some programming reference works/ technical manuals to it if it had a search function. That would be most awesome.

I wonder how the 700 will store the highlighted and annotated information. I don't do a ton of highlighting or annotating but do a bit of it when I find a really good passage that I want to remember or share. The Kindle has made this really easy with the built in keyboard. I also love how the Kindle makes use of the "My Clippings" document where it stores all of the notes that you have made in one single, easy to find place as well as within the book. I wonder if the 700 will do something similar?

The simplest sollution would be to create a document with the same name as the book, and give it another extension. Creating a small file which contains the annotations.
However I don't really know neither how the 700 will work.

I put a lot of non-fiction, technical ebooks in my reader, and it definitely would help a lot if there were highlighting and annotation features in the device. This is an area where paper books still win over ebooks -- until we have color and free-form annotation capabilities in ebook readers.
