I Just Met Paul Theroux and You Didn't

Just got back from the DC Book Festival where I got to shake hands and talk to Paul Theroux. He's the author of those lovely travel books ('Riding the Iron Rooster', 'Happy Isles of Oceania' etc) Just happened to be driving by the Mall where the Library of Congress had set up ten or twenty tents, each one devoted to a different genre. So I parked, illegally (hey, if you don't like the way I drive, stay off the sidewalk) and had a quick walk-around.

Lots of authors speaking in the various tents plus a Barnes & Noble section where you could buy books by the authors and get them signed. Very nice set-up and I was pleased at the large crowds, especially lots of young readers. Only down side was there was virtually nothing about eBooks.

Hey since I just shook hands with Paul Theroux and since I write with my right hand, this means I'll start writing better, become a best selling author...aw, I didn't think anybody would fall for that one.

Wow! You lucky so-and-so .

'Mosquito Coast' and 'O-Zone' are great novels. I prefer them to his travel writing; although 'The Kingdom by the Sea' is an interesting outsider's view of my home country.

Congratulations!!

Would you rate Azimov higher than Theroux as a writer?
