Sending by e-mail removes images

I recently setup calibre to send newspapers to my kindle via e-mail. The file has over 30 MB. However, I noticed Calibre strips the file of images, presumably so that it can be sent by e-mail. Is there a way to tell calibre to downsize the images instead of removing them? Or is something else altogether causing this?

calibre does not remove images when sending by email. And images can be downsized by editing the recipe and using compress_new_images

So what does happen? The file as downloaded has 31 MB, which is too large to be sent by Gmail. When I open it in my computer, the images are there. When I transfer the file to my kindle over USB? the images are there. When I sent the file via e-mail, the images are not there, yet the file arrives. Is Google stripping them? Or Amazon (which the file should never reach, I think)?

How would I know what happens? I dont have special insight into either gmail or amazon. In any case use GMX rather than GMail IIRC it has a 50MB limit, and it's not as incentivized as google to read your email.
