Transferring metadata via device?

I have Calibre running on two separate PCs in different locations. In the past I'd been keeping them in sync manually by just importing books to both one by one. Now the number of books I've got has grown, I started adding a Collection value to my existing LIbrary metadata to create shelves in my ereader (I have a Kobo Aura). Now I want to duplicate this extra metadata in the other Calibre instance.

My first thought was I could just upload the metadata from the Kobo to Calibre, but I can't see an option for that,. Second thought was delete the books in the second instance and repopulate from the Kobo. That doesn't seem to work either: I get the books, but without the metadata. Have I missed a setting somewhere, or is there some other way to achieve the same thing - maybe exporting to a catalogue, then re-importing from there?

Thanks for any advice

Graham

copy the folder with the library and books on a USB key and then replace the ones on your other computer with this one. It should do the trick

OK, I get that. But it seems very long-winded. Every time I make a metadata change to an item on one system, I need to copy the entire book over again. So I guess this is really a feature request: since I'm plugging my ebook into different instances of Calibre at different times anyway, would it be hard to add an option to slurp up any new metadata from the ebook?

Have you tried putting your library on dropbox or onedrive ? This way, you have only one library hat you share between several computers.

I personally do it through dropbox. the only thing is you need to have only one instance of calibre open at the same time. It works very well.
