English as a second language author

I have gone beyond my PhD in Social Communications to concentrate on English for beginning and intermediate speakers and writers. I currently teach English to adult immigrants in New York at a CUNY college. I have served in Latin America in United Nations and host country Education and Communication Projects, and have taught in Bolivian and Peruvian Universities.

My presence and activity in Latin American reality inspired my first Book, "Comunicación Horizontal: Cambio de Estructuras y Movilización Social" which was a key part of the emerging approach to Communication Studies in Latin America. An update can be found at: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009TIJLBI.

Upon entering Academia in the United States, my experiences with Spanish speaking adults and their specific difficulties with English led me to write "Escucha y Habla: Claves de pronunciación y gramática para Hispanos" (http://tinyurl.com/jmyx5xw). I provide guidance on accent reduction and the proper North American English accent at http://www.GoodAccent.com and also offer resources for Spanish Speaking learners of English at http://www.InglesParaLatinos.com.

I soon became convinced that knowledge of basic grammar, especially the parts of speech and sentence structure, would help new learners (both native born and immigrants) move faster towards writing good English. So I wrote "ESL and Adult Learners of English CAN WRITE RIGHT" (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006RO6T8K). This book provides a review of basic grammar, spelling and vocabulary, with multiple exercises and answers. The books ends with the presentation of a method for new writers to gain the confidence and ability to get started writing the daily projects that they have been avoiding.

My latest work is Wake Up Your Writing: Learn from the Tricks of the Old Pros" (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5UHEN6), a lighthearted look at the classic rhetorical tricks that can provide inspiration and models to new writers. I gathered fifty examples of the measures used by classical and modern writers of English to emphasize and clarify, organize and arrange, and desplay style and personality. Each example has an easy-to-remember modern title as well as the original name given by the ancients. I tried to make this book an accessible introduction to good writing, as well as a valuable aid to your own writing.

I recently started the series WRITE ENGLISH BETTER, now at 21 short editions of my thoughts on style and grammar.
