Trade-In Question
I have a PW3 & a Fire 10 5th gen I am thinking of trading in. Can I use the Money & Buy a New Fire? I don't want any more Kindles from Amazon I seem to have the Worst luck with them... 9 month after I get them they fall apart!
![]() Does Anyone know IF Amazon will allow this? Have you done it? If so how did it turn out for you? |

Right now, they have two promotions running --
Exclusive Offer: Once your trade-in is reviewed and accepted, a $XX promotional credit for a new Kindle e-reader will automatically be added to your Amazon account. (Whatever value your Paperwhite is, that's the promotional credit.) Exclusive Offer: Once your trade-in is reviewed and accepted, a 25% promotional discount for a new Fire Tablet will automatically be added to your Amazon account. (When trading in your Fire) You don't have to take the Paperwhite promotion, you can just use the total gift card amount for something else is my understanding, so you can use your trade-in amount to put towards buying a Fire. I'm still waiting for them to get my 2 Fires and 1 Kindle (should arrive there today) so my trade-in will be processed/complete. |

I don't see where they are taking any Fire tablets in trade right now.
Editing to add...after much digging around, I did find the trade in for the 5th gen Fire 10" Some of the trade in pages weren't loading correctly for me. Last edited by Deskisamess; 03-27-2018 at 10:15 AM. |

You'll get the trade-in value, but since you said you didn't want another Kindle, then you wouldn't be utilizing the promo?
[It was a $20 promo for me, which is my trade-in value, too, so I'm not sure if it's $20 flat promo or matches the value of the trade-in...I assumed the latter. I can confirm once my order's processed and I try the different items in my cart.] |

You would be better off selling your units on eBay. The trade-in rebates are pitifully low. Also, Amazon periodically lowers prices on their Kindle products lower than the rebates.

I had one of my Fires that had a power issue and would likely have been marked as a misrepresented product if I tried to sell it on EBay as functional or I'd get a rock bottom price if I posted it as non-functioning. Amazon got it, verified it in working order, and my gift card's in my account now. Not a bad deal considering it was just laying in my closet collecting dust. (Still waiting on my Kindle to be verified and paid out.) |

My late sister was also a tablet user. She was always falling asleep reading and was afraid of damaging the ereader I gave her. Tablet is much tougher. I enjoy my echos and dots. |

In about three months it will be Amazon Prime Day. They have good deals then, if you can wait. My Fire HD8 was $49, I think it was, on last year's Prime Day. I paid a bit more because I bought a case and screen protector with it, but IIRC the Fire itself was $49 if bought separately. The Fire is not the perfect tablet, but it is the perfect tablet for $49! Especially when you install the Google Play app store on it and thus aren't limited to the much inferior Fire app store.
And on those Echo Dots ... I bought two for my Mom last Christmas when they were on sale for $29 each. I figured she could check the weather and the time (never expected her to do much more with them). She's in a senior living independent retirement community. I was pretty impressed with the little buggers when I set them up for her, and ended up buying four more for my house! This, despite me being extremely privacy and security conscious. But I broke my privacy ideals and bought myself probably the most un-private thing you can buy. Oh well. These Dots are great for setting reminders. And great for timers, especially when cooking. One serves as my alarm clock in the bedroom. Note: a device that has no battery and depends on the internet is not the best alarm clock if you have an electrical/internet outage - I set a backup alarm clock for the really important early morning appointments (which are thankfully quite rare for me). This video is perfectly shows the elderly with an Echo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvT_gqs5ETk Last edited by haertig; 03-28-2018 at 11:34 PM. |

Don't have Prime anymore. When I did have it I never found anything to buy.
As for the Dot I think I will ask $30 bucks for it. Don't need an alarm Don't work so I sleep when I want get up when I feel I can. Never had any luck getting the Google Play app store to work on my Fire 10... Only app I wanted is the VUDU app. I get the dang thing on all My Movies & just as I want to watch a movie the dang app wouldn't work.... 1st time it Deleted ALL of my Movies I just put on it ...took Months to Download them! 2nd time I got 1/2 way thru a Movie & Freeze! There has not been a 3rd time as I spent $50 bucks in a Insignia Tablet! $10 bucks on a Insignia Speakers.... Now No problems in 6 months ![]() ![]() |

Here's a good tutorial on how to install the Google Play appstore on your Fire. This is the tutorial that I personally followed, and it worked perfectly for me. Be sure and read it entirely before you start, so you have an idea of what's coming next. But it's easy, step-by-step. https://www.howtogeek.com/232726/how...n-fire-tablet/ I've noticed that some of the apps I use are paid on the Fire appstore but free on Google Play. Same app. Example: "OpenVPN" (a technical app probably not useful to many here, but it's one that I need personally). This one was pay on Fire appstore, free on Google. At least that was the status of things when I installed it several months ago. Here's a couple of free apps for the Kindle Fire (from Google Play) that I find very good and very useful. "VLC" for videos: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...g.videolan.vlc "Smart AudioBook Player" for audiobooks: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...okplayer&hl=en "Piktures" for photos: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...diune.pictures "ASUS File Manager" for low level access to stored content: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...us.filemanager The best known name in this category of apps used to be "ES File Explorer". Years ago this was a great app. Nowadays it's a totally horrid ad-infested mess. Total trash now. Can't even hardly figure out how to use its interface. ASUS File Manager is a 10000% better replacement. It has a very useful mode where it turns your Fire into a webserver. You can access it wirelessly from any of your computers and upload/download files over the web. Very handy for getting stuff onto and off of your Fire. "WiFi Analyzer" for investigating and testing a WiFi environment - to find the best channel for your router, best placement for strongest signal, etc. (definitely a technical app!): https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....wifi.analyzer Last edited by haertig; 03-30-2018 at 02:39 AM. |
