Unless it peaked and fell back down a bit.

So it got over 1000, dropped about $6 and is now climbing again.

And for interesting trivia, I checked 4 companies and gold prices. The two major retailers are up. The two big lenders (not banks) and gold are down a bit.

Gold always fluctuates by the minute. Gold was highest on August 23, 2011 when it reached $1917.90 a Troy ounce. I wonder how many people lost their shirts waiting for it to hit $2000.00 a Troy ounce?
A lot of people lost their shirts in 1980 waiting for gold to hit $1000.00 a Troy ounce.

Google and Amazon should do 10 for 1 splits as the shares are mostly sold in lots of 100 and it's hard for small investors to spend 100k one shot to buy. I feel both their market caps would go up by at least 5% if they do a 10 or 20 for 1 split.

Microsoft does that regularly.
It gets their stock into tons of retirement nest egg portfolios which means long-term investors instead of "day traders" and less stock volatility. Which in turn means less quarterly drama for the CEO.

Think of it as gossip.
When news are slow gossip fills the vacuum.
Inquiring minds and all that.

Besides, a lot of the gossip *is* publishing-related, directly or iindirectly. Like the Echo, Fire TV, Prime, and pricing/shipping articles. For the rest of the non-ebook pieces, well, Amazon casts a big shadow in publishing, with vocal detractors wishing they would vanish in a puff of smoke and brimstone, and others just surprised/impressed that a company that started by exploiting publishing's distributor "float" has gotten so big just by finding and exploiting competitors' inefficiencies and irrationalities.
They do so many odd things they generate gossip just by existing.
