Kobo Touch (LC) better than Kobo Glo?
After years of finding new ereaders too expensive (brazilian here) I finaly got an old used Kobo Touch 1.0 (Low Cost). The back black rubber is melting the low resolution is very noticeble but despite these cons I fell in love with it. (Pocket integration is very useful to me).
So much that only a month of use I saw a used Kobo Glo 1.0 beeing sold for the same price and as only the missing ligh was really bothering me I went on and bought it. But I got a "problem", the Kobo Glo, at least on my end, has way less contrast than the Touch and has a LOT more gohsting on the screen, even when set to refresh at every single page. I looked around reviews on the internet and have found nothing about it, so I'm thinking it coud be something specific to my unit. The guy who sold it to me said that was bought on impulse and it stayed "lost" and unused for some three years. Could this have some influence? I was really looking into keeping the Glo and selling the Touch, it is way prettier. But as it is I'll probably do the opposite, Can anyone sugest a hack to "jump start" it to what I think is the real contrast of the thing? |

Not sure about the ghosting. When you first got it, did it update to the latest firmware? |

I can understand that the backgournd could not be as white caus of the light implementation but what can not stand is the fact that the "blacks" on the Glo are only as black as the mid grays on the Touch. I know I'm very late to the party but I don't imagine it could go unnoticed for all the reviewrs out there. And the ghosting is unberable, and yes: comparing to the lower resolution Touch, especialy with the light on, a lot of times I can not tell the difference between the ghosting and the acctual page. And in fact the reviews that I've seen - images and videos - the blacks of the Glo are far better than in mine used one. At this point my only hope is that there is something hacky that could be done to improve the blacks in a unity that rested so much time unused (some three years). I aready tested a blow dryer - as I've read somewhere here that the cold washed out the blacks - it really wasn't the way to go, I can tell you that. |

I'm sorry to say, but it sounds like you bought a defective Glo. I owned a Glo (now own a Touch) and I had no ghosting on the Glo and it had good, solid dark fonts. My problem with the Glo was an issue with my eyes – for some reason I can't use front-lit eReaders as I'm constantly having trouble keeping them in focus. Your Glo should be much nicer than the Touch with the front-light turned on. Not only should the light make the background whiter, the Glo's resolution is higher than a Touch's resolution, so the fonts should be sharper.
