0.4.8.4 htms turn up as zips
When I add htm files to the new version of calibre, they show up as zip files in calibre.
In the file system they turn up as zip files with the following structure: metadata.opf <content> and then in <content>: the htm file.htm <resources> I would like to know if htm files appearing as zip files are intentional, and if so why? Htm files that are already in calibre show up as htm files |

That's because calibre automatically follows all links in the html files and adds them to the zip file.

perhaps I am not understanding, but I believe there were no links in the htm files I tried to add. Does this mean there will no longer be solo htm files that aren't zipped up in the file system

yes it does. Even if there are no links a zip file is created from the HTML file.

FBReader recognizes the extension .oebzip for such files (ZIP files containing a single OEB ebook). I'm not sure using a unique filename extension is necessary, but there are an awful lot of different things that could be in a ZIP file.
