Touch Oldest Software for Full Screen Hack?

Apparently the firmware on my "new" (original) Touch is too old for the Full Screen Hack to work. This Touch is running version 2.1.5 and I like the older software but I want something new enough to use Full Screen. Does anyone know the lowest firmware release I can find that will successfully use this hack? I'll keep looking but I couldn't find any specific information about this.

Go there and grab the version firmware listed for your Touch. That will work.

Okay, thanks. I tried 2.6.1, but that didn't work with it, so now I'm trying 3.3.1. Great resource, BTW.

Thanks! That worked. Just rebooted as I was typing this post. I may move the other Touch to 3.3.1 (if you can go down?).

EDIT: And, as a bonus, I've got Chess and Pocket now.

Why would you want 3.3.1? It's not all that good a firmware version.

What you want if you plan to stay on version 3 firmware is 3.19.5761. That's the last and best version 3 firmware.

Except, according to the information I found by following PeterT's link, the Full Page Hack won't work with anything lower than 3.3.x. If not for the lack of Full Page capabilities, I would have been happy to leave my firmware at 2.1.5.

But maybe I'll run into issues with 3.3.1 and will need to upgrade further. I don't know yet. Do you know what problems I might run into?

Firmware version 3.19.5761 is the firmware I generally recommend for people who don't want to use the 4.x.x firmware. It does have the same interface.

If you don't like it, strictly you should do a factory reset to install the older firmware. But, you can try just installing it and seeing what happens.

When I am doing experiments like this, what I do is take a full copy of the book partition. Then, if I change my mind or finish whatever experiment I was doing, I can do the factory reset, put the firmware on that I want and restore the data.

I don't have that much to rebuild so, if I decide to go back (which it doesn't look like I would need to do) – doing a factory reset and reloading firmware wouldn't be an issue.

No chess in 3.19.x, so I decided to do a factory reset and then "downgrade" back to 3.3.1. But now it wants me to setup via WiFi or Computer and (when I try to do that) it automatically wants to upgrade to the latest software. Doesn't appear to be any way around this. I guess I'll let it upgrade and then do another factory reset and see if there is a way to bypass this – but I'm guessing it's something they changed in 1.9.11 (it seems like I read something about that). Why do companies insist on forcing you to upgrade?

IIRC you can do the registration via computer BUT delete the upgrade files BEFORE you disconnect the device from your computer. The update doesn't start until you disconnect it from your computer and it boots up.

Okay, thanks. I didn't think of that. I guess that means I have to crank up the Windows partition on the laptop. I'll get on it. I gather, once you've set up an account, you can then upgrade without going through the setup process again(?).

EDIT: Okay, back up to 3.3.1, chess is back, etc. I don't know if this is where I'll stay, but it's nice to know I can get back there. For now I'm just leaving WiFi off.
