In Ernst Susemihls Übersetzung von 1853 kommt dieser englische Roman aus dem Jahre 1766. "The Vicar of Wakefield" von Oliver Goldsmith war ein ungewöhnlich wirkmächtiger literarischer Text, ähnlich wie Fieldings "Tom Jones" - beide haben insbesondere auch die deutsche Literatur nachhaltig beeinflusst. - Grund genug, das Werk hier anzubieten.
