Oasis X-ray
I've noted that the x-ray feat in the Oasis, is significantly different from the Paperwhite I had before.
The paperwhite would see how many times a word would be used in a chapter or book.
The Oasis version seems to do the same, but more advanced, and also incorporates a sort of historical background on some words?

I'm wondering if X-Ray is a sort of included encyclopedia?

Are you sure? X-ray is a static feature of an ebook. Do you have a specific book that has different information on Oasis vs. PW? Quality depends on publisher - some x-ray appear to be curated while others look somehow automatically generated. And appears to be the same info in KF8 or KFX version of the book.

A few firmware updates ago Amazon modified the X-Ray interface, making it a lot more complex and, in my opinion, a lot less useful. I wonder if your Paperwhite didn't have a recent firmware.

I don't have an Oasis but I have a Paperwhite 1, 2 and 3 as well as a Voyage. X-Ray hasn't been updated on my Paperwhite 1, or at least it wasn't last time I used it. I rarely use X-Ray anymore.
