Fetch Annotations (exp) Greyed out
Hello all,
I have been using calibre for a very long time, and I haven't been able to keep up with all the features, so please bear with me... lately I have been trying to organize my library and try some new things since my original library crashed with over 18,000 books. so I have been adding them back in one author at a time and I stumble upon this "Fetch Annotations" feature and I cannot seem to get it to work with my kindle fire and the calibre companion app. I have tried to set up pchrist7's "Kindle: Show ebook reading status in custom column" at but when I get to the part to "fetch annotations" it is greyed out and there is no way to get it to work that I can find here. I am thinking the problem has something to do with the fact that I am using the network to connect to the kindle fire, not a usb cable and since the usb cable won't connect to a Kindle fire and sync i am not going to be able to use this feature. I have also installed the "[GUI Plugin] annotations" that GRiker created and it fails to find the kindle or do anything with my kindle fire either. if this information is somewhere else in the forums please direct me to where, I have been reading several posts for a couple of days and cannot find a fix for this. any and all help is much apprecieated. Best Regards Shaggy |

Fetch annotations only works with some kindle models and only over a USB connection.

And the same goes for the Annotations plugin.

Thank you for the quick replies.
Hopefully the kindle fires will be supported in the future. this really sounds like a very nice feature. Shaggy |

For the Annotations plugin, someone needs to write an adapter to read the annotations from the device. While I am the current maintainer of the plugin, I can only do this for devices I have. And I don't have a Kindle Fire. If someone is interested in doing it, I am very happy to help.
And roughly the same goes for the function in calibre. |

Adapter
Hmmm...
What programming language is needed for the adapter? I don't have much experience with programming anymore, used to know basic, C, and a bit of fortran. dabbled in Visual Basic, but that was many years ago. I may be interested. Shaggy |

Python. Calibre and the plugins are written in Python.
