Experiences with Warranty repair (having opened device)?
Hi all,
Since practically the beginning of my time with the Glo HD, the mini-USB port has been terrible. Often, it wouldn't charge or connect unless it was rested on something at an angle. Frustrating. But I never got round to sending it in for repair, and in fact believed it to be out of warranty. Recently, I opened the device up to flash a fresh image onto the SD card. That went fine. I thought I'd have a look at the port, and it's clearly loose/broken. At present, it's charging/connecting rather infrequently, and it definitely needs a fix. It turns out that in the UK I have a 2 year limited warranty. Great - I'm actually covered. But like most warranty agreements, if they discern it's been opened/manually tampered with, they reserve the right not to fix it under warranty. So my question is: Has anyone sent the device in before, having opened it, and did you get a successful (free) repair anyway? In my case, when it was tough to open, I used a pin, and certain scuffing/marking is definitely discernable by feel or by sight under a magnifying glass. I'm confident that if they wanted to find evidence of "tampering", they could find it. So what's the likelihood they wouldn't repair my device under warranty? I'd love it if they were lenient, especially since it's a pre-existing, long-term issue, and it's one that's pretty common. (For example, my issue is very similar to this person's, and others in that thread.) |

Though, I'll say that I know technically the warranty is probably voided. Specifically: I want to know from others' experience, whether having opened the device (visibly) has been a problem for them before, in terms of invalidating the warranty. |
