Can't see multiple libraries?
Since I updated to 3.13.0 I can no longer see my multiple libraries. I can see my main library but the other three that I was keeping are still in the file structure where they've always been but calibre doesn't show them anymore. Is there an easy way to get them linked back to the programme?
Thanks Paul |

Try the information found here to switch to other existing libraries.

Hi
Yes I've read that before but I'm not sure it helps me. I used to be able to see all 4 of my libraries if I used the Quick switch etc. functions because they were all visible in Calibre, but since the last upgrade if I open the quick switch function it doesn't show me my three other libraries. How do I get Calibre to see these other libraries so I CAN switch/transfer between them? P |

@phamley - you can add them back via the Select Library->Switch/create... tool, viz
But, the real question is, why did they get lost when you did the upgrade. The list of libraries is within one of the files (I forget which) in the calibre configuration folder - an upgrade doesn't change those files. BR |

I thought that Switch/Create function only allows you to move the existing library, or switch to one that is already recognised by Calibre. I have no idea why it they went "missing" after the update!! I'm thinking that the only way to get them back is to rename the existing folders - create new folders - and then re-add the books. I might see if I can find where that config file is and see if it can be modified to re-recognise the other folders.
Thanks for trying to help, my friend. |

No need for the headslap emotie. When a mistake can cause the loss of a library of over 22,000 books - you tend to be a little reticent of advice given by strangers. OK?
I'll take a series of precautions and backups and will maybe try your method. |

You will also note that we (MR users) warn (backup... You will lose preferences...) when there is some risk (typically using S&R feature of MDE.) Not uncommon, is a disagreement on how to achieve results ![]() ![]() In this case, you had 2 forum Mods and a developer helping. I don't think there was confusion on what you were trying to accomplish. BTW Asking here before you did stuff that made full recover difficult (or near impossible) is a good thing ![]() |

@phamley - I suspect you may be misreading the term "New location". The adjective 'New' reflects the status of calibre's recording of its libraries in its gui.json file, not the status of folder/directory in the file system.
Using the "Use the previously existing library at the new location" option won't affect the library selected, however it will change the gui.json file in calibre's configuration directory. I am still puzzled as to why the list of libraries went missing from gui.json, I have upgraded calibre hundreds of times (since 0.8.??) on my own and other folks PC's (remotely over the 'net) over the past several years - and I have never had calibre lose track of its libraries. Do you use any third party programs to install or uninstall software. I've known 3rd party uninstallers to nuke everything in sight when configured too aggressively. Quote:

Hi BetterRed, I've had CAlibre for years, and like you have done loads of updates without any issues whatever - it's only this last upload that's made the Libraries disappear. I my defence I have no idea who the respondents are or what their skill sets are ( you say they are mods and developers but where do I see that?). Don't get me wrong - I'm thankful for their help and advice, but like I say, when you're at risk of losing 22,000 books if it goes wrong - you want to be VERY certain before you take any action.
![]() I have now nervously tried the "switch/create - use existing" advice and I'm pleased to say I have now recovered some libraries. So thanks to those involved. P |
