omnibus/partial series

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but is there a way to designate a single file as multiple books in a series? Like I have a volume I with the first three novels in a series and a volume II with the last couple books in the series..

Its no big deal. I tried [1],[2] ; [1,2] ; [1;2] and other variations so I am guess it can't be done. Just want to be sure lol.

Also is there a chat? I checked the MR IRC server and #calibre was empty. Feel bad asking basic questions and spamming the forum :/

The only way to manage that is to create additional custom columns "like series". For anthologies it doesn't work well (how many columns do you have to create?), but I don't know any additional way.

Another work around might be to list volume 1 as Series 1.23 letting you know it is books 1,2 and 3.

Or do as I do and use the epub split plugin to separate the single volume into 3 separate books. Sometimes if I have an omnibus that I wish to keep, such as Charlie Chan or The Wizard of Oz, I'll label the omnibus series 0. Then I will split up the omnibus into its individual books too.

Thanks. I will check out the epub split plugin as right now I am avoiding adding any unnecessary columns to increase portability. I am told epub stores metadata but am yet unsure what it includes, plus I am starting from the bottom with an overwhelming amount of books so I should get the basics such as title/series/author finished before I go making things more complicated

I see I had read it wrong. @DoctorOhh approaching would be the right one, mine is for a book in different series.

I give my omnibuses series #0, then create empty books for relevant metadata (and to have no gaps when I sort by series). In addition I use custom column where I enter title of the omnibus. Probably it could be tweaked so that clicking on omnibus title opens it in reader, but I don't really need that.
