Any way to BUY from another Kobo Store?
I would LOVE to buy the entire Montalbano series in Italian, both ebook and audiobook to help me improve my Italian, but while I can search the Italian site, I can't buy from it? Would using a proxy/vpn work?

The shop used is based on the address details for your account. If you "move" to Italy, it should work.

Before you can change your address to the country you are visiting, you need to clear your payment method if it's a credit card. Store credit (e.g., from gift cards or refunds) is fine. I presume buying ebooks from Kobo in Italy will be in euros, so if your credit card adds a surcharge for foreign currencies, you'll also have that on your bill. If you're paying with store credit, Kobo will convert your credit to the foreign currency, and then back again when you return to your native country.

Montalbano is very fine but, if You want to improve Italian, there are many dialectal expressions, be careful and learn to distinguish them from correct Italian.
In this article You will find some examples: http://www.vigata.org/dialetto_camil...amilleri.shtml Buy it anyway, you won't be disappointed. Last edited by ps67; 10-18-2018 at 02:00 AM. |

When I was in Sicily in May, I had a fun discussion with some locals, telling them, in my limited, broken Italian to be proud of their Sicilian tongue and not to denigrate it as a mere dialetto. I love the variety in languages, and was saddened to see how much my sammarienes friends had lost their romagnalo dialetto in the fifteen years since I was last there.

We are going off topic but a linguist said: "What is a language? a dialect who made his fortune."

![]() And I would agree that Montalbano books, while great and fun, are probably not the best resource for learning Italian (or Sicilian). Still, learning languages by way of a passion or hobby is the best way to go at it, so have fun! |

[QUOTE=mathil;3762074]It's not a question of pride, IMO, it's just that the vast majority of people are not aware of the fact that what we call dialetti are mostly languages in their own right. Sammarinese is actually a dialect, though -- of Romagnolo, not Italian
![]() You'll note I made both points in my post above. ![]() I should that I adore Italian,, all the variants I've heard. The sound of the language excites me endlessly, even if the subject matter is deadly dull Last edited by stuartjmz; 10-18-2018 at 05:44 PM. |
