Kobo Glo: Where's the table of contents?

Just got me a Kobo Glo, firmware version 3.19.5761.

Love the font resizability--such an improvement over Kindle's limited choices.

However, I can't seem to get to a table of contents for any book I read. By this I don't mean the toc.html written into the book and coded by a person, but the structure information that comes from the toc.ncx file that is part of every Epub.

On the Kindle you can get to this from any point in the book just by touching near the top of the screen and selecting "Go to..." at which point the toc.ncx structure info is displayed in a drop-down menu.

On the Kobo, there seem to be two menu buttons, and neither one of them has anything to do with offering to show you the table of contents. The three-bars menu in the top right corner says Light/WiFi/Charging/Sync/Help/Settings, clearly more device-option oriented. The three-bars menu in the bottom right corner says Annotations/Search in book/Dictionary/Reading settings. Now none of those options seems to relate to viewing the table of contents of the ebook you're reading so you can quickly navigate to the chapter you need.

Is it possible that the Kobo Glo has not included this most basic of features?

My Aura One has a "<->" button down in the bottom right which shows the scrollbar for scrolling through pages - also in that pop-up is the link to Table of Contents.

Instead of selecting the "three bars" in the bottom right select the <-> menu to the left. That is where they have now hidden the "Table of Contents" option.

It used to be more prominent but now you have to hunt for it.

Ah, I do see it. Somehow a double-headed arrow does not scream "Table of Contents!" to me. I never pressed that button because it looked like it would adjust spacing or something. Thank you both.

The double arrow opens the "navigation bar". That has functions to move around the book. The slider to move anywhere, the arrows to move to the next or the previous chapter, the return button and the link to the table of contents.

This brings up one of the things that always surprises me. Don't people try all the options on the menu and toolbars of their applications? Or is it just me that taps or clicks on everything to see what they do?

I'm with you, I go through every setting, push, click tap everything I can find. That doesn't mean that I still occasionally don't miss something though!

Doesn't everybody? How else do you find all the odd and useful little items that are hidden away?

I've have a brother in law that even reads the manual before using a new gadget 😨. The rest of the family laughs at him, but then we ask him when we want to know how to do something.

Hmm... I know just how he feels.

I've got it really bad: I read the manual before buying a new gadget - it's the best way to know what you're getting. (And you get to impress the family by knowing how everything works as soon as the box is opened . ... The very definition of a geek?)

The fun is when the manual and the real world don't match up. Were changes made since the manual was written or was the manual written by someone who who had never used the gadget? I've see too many manuals that read as if they were translated by someone who was not comfortable in either the original or the translated language.
