Multi-Reader housholds

Yep, we did it. My wife is now a proud owner of a silver PRS-505 as well. She was going out of town last weekend and I had to stay home. She tends to get bored at nights, esp. when I can't be there so I got her a Reader to keep her entertained. I think she uses her Reader more than I do and mine goes with me everywhere. LOL

Even better, her 16 y/o sister who lives with us wants one now too. So we may wind up with 3 of them.

Any advice for multi-reader households?

I have my wife's Reader set up on my account with Sony as she is on a Mac and can't use their software. I figured she could get the same books I have already bought that way. We mainly use Calibre for both OS's to convert and transfer books as well as a general library tool. She has noticed that the Mac version with drag on for hours when converting a book until she has to cancel it and restart the program.

I also figure that if we just set up my Fictionwise account as a family account, we will be able to share any books there as well.

We've got three Kindles on one Amazon account for much the same reason. While there may be some books that one will read that another will not enjoy, we do tend to have similar likes in books -- particularly in SF and Fantasy. My niece bought The Red Tent and enjoyed it very much, but after reading the first chapter, I was finding that I did not like the author's style at all, so I set it aside. That's going to happen from time to time, but the fact that we have the opportunity for all three of us to read the same title and have only paid for it once is a good thing.

There's no need to register more than one pc if you can coordinate loading of purchased (DRM'd) books. You can run Calibre or Library on any pc to load books onto the reader, but no need to register more than one pc to the Sony account (unless there are privacy concerns with purchased ebooks!).

I bought the wife one at christmas. She was complaining of having nearly finished a large book and needed to take both it and it's equally large sequel on a business trip, so when I bought my reader I got one for her too.

It didn't go down well at first. But now she loves it. 16 days in Japan and that was the only book she needed!

We both read some similar books, Steve Berry being one author, but I won't read Jodi Picault and she won't read David Weber. So only a slight overlap.

Just about to join the multi-reader club. It's Mrs Argel's birthday soon and she's getting a 505 and associated widgets from me.

I only buy books that I can format-shift - and I keep everything in HTML format anyway. So it looks as if I shall be learning how to use Calibre.

I have a silver 505 and my wife has a blue. Additionally, we each have Nokia tablets that we also use as readers. Our digital library is kept on an NFS server.

EB-1150, PRS500 and Cybook. A couple months and we will probably add a new version of the PRS505 to the library.

These have made life so much easier around here. Now if we could just get a decent sized one for full PDFs and forms.....

Whoops! Guess I should have said "get one now".

Besides, I'm already trying to get a nice head of indignant whine-steam up due to the new larger readers not being:
a) big enough for whatever I'm reading
b) color enabled
c) cheap enough
d) able to make a DECENT cup of coffee (wirelessly)
