Beginner. How to do Ratings

So, I already feel like a total idiot after many hours. I know I am overlooking something very simple.

The only way I have found so far to set a rating for one or more books is to pull up the metadata on one or more books and set it through that GUI.

It seems like there should be something very simple, like a context menu item (or any menu item) to set rating in one click. What am I missing

I looked around for a Plug in, but didn't see anything.

----- Not Important

Also, there is some strange behavior in the Ratings that are imported, which is not a big deal since I seem to have a work around for how I assumed things would work

My Category for Rating (left) shows various numbers of already rated books from importing, however when I filter those ratings, the correct number of books show up, but the rating column shows nothing for those books. So, to destroy all the numbered Ratings in the Category section, I must first (bulk) set those books to that Rating, then re-select that group of books, and set to Not Rated.

That's not a big issue, but seems like some strange behavior.

Thanks for any input on the quick and easy way to set a rating on one or more books.

Awesome software, and I need to contribute to this. I will send some $$.

With the ratings (column) field in edit mode: type a number 0, 1-5

(works in the table view. Not the MDE view. Both have a pulldown arrow on the right)

Also, in the book list, F2 a ratings cell, then up/down arrow to increment/decrement number of stars.

I don't import ratings so I can't speak to that issue.

Thanks. Now I really do feel like an idiot. Table view. Click into a field to edit.

And for multiple books, the metadata solution works pretty quick

Don't feel bad

You have 4 posts and have been using Calibre a short time.
We (I include BR), have many posts and many years of Calibre use.
(A nd I still occasionally just find a feature )

BTW I really believe all users should read the FAQ section in 'Help'. (And periocically return there. Kovid does keep that updated

To which I'll add - a) if not already done, spend some time watching/doing the video tutorials, b) familiarise yourself with Preferences->Tweaks, just so you know roughly what's there, and c) read the release notes when a new version is released.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm pretty good just jumping into the thick of things with software, just by exploring around. That's where the fun comes in with computer geeks.

It's always the very simple stuff that gets overlooked. Just click into any field. Works like a charm.

I'm pretty deep into things, but there are some things I see in the manual that will useful down the road.

What most manuals will NOT cover, are the advantages (or not) of doing someting one way over another.
