Wondering out-loud - Calibre and multi-media files
Calibre touts itself as an "ebook management" system and in doing so makes itself very attractive to people such as me who utilize many different e-book formats. My operating system is WINDOWS 8.1, but I am using Calibre Portable, so I am uncertain that the application is purely anything. Calibre's flexibility, however, has encouraged me to attempt to integrate multi-media files into my Calibre holdings. Successfully, I have added APE, AVI, FLV, OGG and WMV files; added SEARCH Tags and even created and used Virtual Libraries with these multi-media files. So, I wonder out-loud - am I the only person who sees a value in this, and why is this capability not made public?

As to why it's not 'advertised', I imagine because Kovid doesn't want to extend calibre's prime focus beyond e-books, and be asked to include features found in software such as Musicbee, Media Magic, iMatch, or Lightroom. BR |

BR;
Thanks for responding to my out-loud wondering. It is nice to know that Calibre's full capability is not really hidden, but I do wish that capability was more publicly acknowledged. I can, however, understand not wanting to lose Calibre's primary focus on e-books. Anyway, thanks again. Mark Lee |

![]() There are numerous discussions on the creative uses of calibre in these forums, mainly in this sub-forum, but also in the Related Tools subforum. One user keeps embroidery patterns files in a calibre library, I assume they're numerical control files that can be downloaded into industrial embroidery machine. BR |
