Most hackable/customizable/open ereader

Hello,
I gave my PW2 away and need to buy another ereader.
I want something more hackable than Amazon products. So I guess Android is what I am looking for?
The most annoying thing with them is the lack of apps/epub support, and RTL languages suck on them.
I was looking into Tolinos which you can root (good), but heard there were some quirks with them.
I heard Inkbooks are pretty hackable as well.
So which ereader should I get? Which of them has the most solid UX while remaining hackable?

It depends where you live and how much you want to spend.

But I'd say Onyx or Boyue/Icarus is your best bet. Onyx also has bluetooth.

Kobos don't run Android so meh.
I'm in France and am ready to spend €250 on a good reading device.
The Onyx product line looks nice, but there are no reviews on the internet =(
Also it doesn't seem to have Tolino's night mode to reduce blue light at night. I don't about their MOON light thingy though.
Other than that, it runs Android so definitely hackable.

So I am definitely considering the Robinson Crusoe since it looks like the nicest product in their line. Does anybody have one of these? How is the build quality?

I wish there were reviews for it on the web.

But the problem is a lot of these Android Readers use an old version of Android and thus, the latest version of some Reading apps won't work.

Also to my mind just installing apps from the app store is not hacking!

Ask in the Onyx sub-forum. Early Onyx were a bit bad on batteries, but they've probably got a lot better now.
