Linux software for flashing?
Hi to all.
I just have linux and don0t want to turn into Windows for flashing and copying roms to my eReaders or Yotaphone. So wanna know if I can do it with linux versions of all kinfd of software or not. Another thing that makes me worry is in Linux is usuall that something fails for many reasons (there is always one missing module or who-knows-what-this-time). So if here there is a linux user who plays with roms and wants to give me an advice I will be very pleased. Thanks Last edited by eReader fan; 06-11-2017 at 09:44 PM. |

I think I figured it out...
As I read, all is done with Fastboot and Adb. I downloaded Android SDK I am trying to install. Of course, some problems appeard, but I will pass through them. I will talk to you again when I installed everything I think I have to. |

Yes, I realized iit just when I downloaded and struggled with the installation of whole android SDK, but thank you anyways Moe The Cat
![]() I've installed adb version 1.0.4, but I saw there is 1.4.3. IS that what you are sharing? Sorry, but I am newbie in Linux and I have no idea of what I have to do with the files you linked ![]() EDIT: I almost forget one thing!! I searched an explanation about "adb sideload" and I find this confusing text of TWRP: Quote:

I don't know the version of adb included in the link I posted. But, since the link is for Google and was updated in June 2017, I believe it will be the latest adb.
I am not sure about the error you are getting when you launch adb. Are you trying to launch it from the filer explorer? It's a command-line utility, so you have to open a terminal window, navigate to the folder where you extracted the tools, and run adb from there. You use fastboot to install a custom recover (TWRP is a custom recovery). Once TWRP is installed, you boot your device into TWRP and use adb to either push a custom ROM or sideload a custom ROM on your device. You can also either push or sideload other items, such as GAPPS, if you want Google Play Store and other Google apps on your device. |

I am running it within the terminal. I have the other adb installed, so to try to execute your adb I copy the whole path: "/home/pi/Downloads/tools/adb", and the answer is "wrong executable format"
Thank you for the adb&fastboot utilities explanation, now I see it more clear. Just have to solve another problem and will start flashing. If I can't I will bother you all another time ![]() Many thanks |

Hi again. As I saw after playing a littlewith ADB^fastboot, it needs a custom recovery to flash or backup an entire ROM. For some reasons, I need to achieve to do that without installing [and even booting from pc via fastboot] a custom recovery. FOr clarify I wantto say I can enter to fastboot mode and my adb works perfectly.
With 'adb backup -all' it only creates an archive where my personal info is saved. I saw a fastboot way that saves every partition of my device, but I have to see it deeper. THere is any way to do a full rom backup and restore without a custom recovery?? Winddows can do it... ![]() |
