4.4.9349 battery discharged too fast

Upgraded to 4.4.9349 a day or two ago!

Recharged my KA1 this morning and read for a few hours. The battery is all the way down to 35%. There has never in the past been a battery problem with my KA1 and it has never discharged so fast.

What should be done?

Thanks!

Reboot. Recharge. And see if the issue is still there.

If the battery drain continues, contact Kobo to let them know about the issue, then either wait until they issue a fix in a new update or roll back to the last good FW.

Personally, I would roll back to the last good FW. I never bothered with the most recent updates, especially after hearing about the black screen kerfuffle. Won't ever bother with any more updates unless they promise some new feature which I couldn't live without. Very unlikely.

It discharged from 35% to 0% overnight while sleeping.

I have all the features turned off e.g. sync, wifi, lighting, etc.

And, yes, I skipped all the updates until this one as this one sounded safe and with faster page turns. Maybe I should have continued to avoid the updates.

Could you check if your frontlight stays on even on sleep mode? I had a similar issue with battery discharge, and that turned out to be the cause.

I have lastest firmware (aura one) and sometimes when I put it in sleep mode (manually because I have not a cover) the light do not turn off.
I have all turned off (wi fi, sensors) light is about at 13% of light power, and the battery drained from 100 to 33 % after about 100 pages of reading. But maybe this is because it was the first charge (I bought it last week).

I wisk anyway kobo can read this and do something to help the battery life in the next firmware. for example why do not to "undervolt" the CPU? maybe you can insert an "eco" mode that undervolt the CPU from 1000mhz to 500mhz and see if it helps with battery charge. All I need sometimes is to turn the page, I believe it's possible even with less powerful CPU. maybe you can force normal mode (1000mhz to automatically turn ON when people are using the Store App, or something that really need more power).

Kobo doesn't read these forums. They aren't in any way official.

My KA1 seems to be fine today.

KA1s seem to always have a battery discharge issue right after a sync. I guess it just took longer to stabilize after this particular sync.

I'll keep an eye on it.

That would need the CPU and other hardware to support this. I have no idea whether it does. But, it's probably pointless. Unless there is a background task happening, such as a sync, the CPU is inactive while you are reading a page. When you tap the screen, it starts up, renders the next page or whatever is needed, updates the screen and then goes back to sleep. Using any sort of economy mode while doing the actual work is probably not going to help enough to be worth it.

And as MGlitch said, this is not an official Kobo support forum. Kobo people do read it, but not in any official manner. And they are more likely to fix a problem reported directly to them than one they noticed here. But, if you do report a problem, being able to point to a thread or posts here is handy.

Hmmmm! After functioning fine for at least a day or two, the KA1 battery was found to be at 0%.

Any theories as to why my KA1 does fine one day then totally discharges (to 0%) following days?

My problem is not too different from yours. My Aura Edition 2 would have these mysterious power drainage, i.e. after reading 30 minutes the device would lose 10 to 15% of power. Other times I could read for an hour with only 1% drainage.

I did the usual ... factory reset, upgrade firmware and re-calibrate the battery. Nothing seemed to work. My device is only 2 months old, so I suspect maybe a defect in the battery or component/wiring problem. Currently, I'm in the process of returning the device under warranty. I'm thinking my problem maybe hardware, not software.

But if it is a firmware issue, what you want to do is factory reset and manually upgrade to the firmware version before the current one. That way you can see if it is the firmware and not the hardware. Others have said going back a firmware version solved the battery issue. The firmware version you want to try is 4.4.9298. The Aura Edition 2 is a Mark 6 device and the URL you want is http://download.kobobooks.com/firmwa...e-4.4.9298.zip

I did a factory reset and reloaded 4.4.9349 so I will now keep my fingers crossed.
