How to set 2 libraries

or more.

I have a "big" library that has all my books in in, but I do not load all them into the devices' all at once. I'd like to create another library that has only books, say ... in my book-reader, but not on my tablet.
I though a virtual library would do it, but "in e-reader" isn't a keyword. So - at the time - I've two actual libraries, I'm thinking there has to be another way, but my searches have proved fruitless.

Ideas?

Connect device: Wait for ticks to show: Search: ondevice:true
Select all (assumes only searched items are in view). Tap 'E' (BULK MODE): Set a Tag <device_name>.

Now your VL has something to look for (that tag )

Repeat for other devices as needed

What I was looking for was the opposite. I can highlight the titles I want from the main library, "copy" them to the virtual library, which would then be uploaded to my various devices. Now I AM aware that I could be makin gthis more complicated then it need be.

A VL is the part of the same Library.
A VL is just a different (filtered) VIEW of that library

The method outlined, just documents what is on your devices, allowing the view to be created (for when the device is disconnected)

From what you want to do I think you should try the reading list plugin instead of making a new library with it. I am not at my PC but if I recall correctly it can populate and sync list with books on different devices.

The books contained in a reading lists can be arbitrary, i.e. unlike virtual libraries, reading lists do not have to based on metadata search terms, and a book can be in multiple reading lists. But, you have to maintain arbitrary lists 'manually', I do it via the book list context menu.

Actually, a reading list can be based on a search. And it can update a field when a book is added or removed. And you create ones that populate automatically when the device is plugged in.

@RBraverman: The Reading List plugin fits well with your use. One of my uses is to have a reading list for each device. This is set to automatically send books on the at list to the device when it is seen. When I add a new book, I decide which devices it should go to and add it to the appropriate lists. The next time I connect that device, the books go to it and the list is cleared.

So it can

I create 2-3 RLs a week, and I never noticed the 3rd option, even though the field for the search term in staring me in the face.
