ipad mini and comixology
Does anyone read comics on an ipad mini? I was wondering what your experience reading comics is compared to the regular 9.7" version of the ipad? I have ipad mini 4 and I tried out a few free sample comics and so far I like using the reader in panel view mode on comixology.I also plan on subscribing to comixology in the future.

I find the text much too small on the Mini but I have tires old eyes. Even on the 12" Pro the text is sometimes a bit tiny depending on the comic. I have only tried a few free downloads from Comixology. Brooklyn Public Library also has a few if you are a member.

The Guided View (panel by panel) works quite nicely on Mini. I have used the page mode too, but then again, my glasses are pretty strong.

Okay for manga even with full page view.
Tolerable for reading American comics full page but the text is really small. Modern comics are around 6 5/8" x 10 1/4" so that's ~12.2" diagonal. Okay for Guided View although I never use that. I just prefer to read full page. iPad mini: 7.9" iPad: 9.7" iPad Pro: 10.5" and 12.9" Last edited by ilovejedd; 06-15-2017 at 12:38 AM. |

I used to read manga on a 6" kindle, then a 6" paperwhite, and those were acceptable.
Now I use an iPad mini with ComicFlow and it's basically perfect. No downsides I have come across, so long as you can source your own mangoes. |

I don't read comic books, not in the last 50 years anyway, but it does seem to me that if people with young eyes are having difficulty reading them on devices the size of the iPad Mini, then the publishers need to come up with a better format. We had comic books back in the 1960s of course, but they were essentially the same design as those that preceded them in the half half century prior to that. If modern publishers are still stuck on that format in the digital age, a century old, print format, then they need to pull their heads out of their backsides and go back to the drawing board. Pun intended.
