Process for replacing the battery?
My trusty Aura HD is still going strong, but I think the battery is discernibly weakening. The time it lasts on a full recharge seems to be getting shorter. That's not yet a problem, but no doubt the time will come when it will be.
Assuming everything else stays working, is it possible to replace the battery? Can anyone point me to where I can read about how to do this, and what model battery I would need? Thanks. |

If you open the case and remove the innards, you can turn it over and see the internal microSD card and the battery. On the battery there will be model number search/google using that number. There should be a list of sites some offering to sell the battery.
The battery has two wires as I remember and you would splice the new battery's wires to the old battery's wires, once you have removed the old battery from the printed circuit board (PCB). It is glued on, so you might want to try working some dental floss under the old battery to get it loose. The connector on the PCB can be tricky and it is not likely that the new battery will come with the proper one attached to its wires, that is why you would be splicing the new wires to the existing ones. Luck; Ken |

There are a few YouTube videos of teardowns of other Kobo models. Although the precise configuration of the Aura HD might be somewhat different, the videos can give you a good indication for what is involved in the process.
Towards the end of the first video, it shows the person removing the battery and will give an indication of how firmly they can be glued in place. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SmYg4q9ai4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bffxKvz9RhA I had to replace the battery on a cheap tablet. Couldn't find any instructions or videos for the make I had. However, watching videos of how people replaced batteries in a variety of other tablets was very informative and allowed me to successfully complete the task on a tablet which I would have otherwise junked. Best of Luck. |
