Windows 10 Creators Update Edge ePub test
I've tested the new Edge ePub addon with the semi-official Reflowable Content Tests epub3 test file and it passed most of them except for VP8 and MathML support. (Unlike most other epub3-enabled apps it doesn't support JavaScript.)
A nice touch is also the built-in TTS support. BTW, it apparently also supports popup footnotes if they were encoded using the preferred iBooks footnote syntax. I.e., the new Edge browser epub add-on should be suitable for most fiction books, but not for MathML-heavy textbooks or books with media overlays and other advanced epub3 features. (It does support embedded audio/video files, though.) |

It was only yesterday that I searched here for any posts about Edge's support for ePub, I had assumed it was Windows Mobile only, but it appears not.
One question, does it 'keep' the books viewed in some sort of library? BR |

Now at last maybe MS will build and ship an ePUB IFilter dll. If it's an add-on can it be added to 1607 Edge, and if not, might one ask... why not? BR |

It is not an add-on (in any event, as far as I know Edge does not support add-ons, it does support Extensions but it is not one of those either).

![]() I wonder why it doesn't support Javascript in ePubs. Edge, and IE11, support Javascript via Chakra, which is now open source. Maybe next time. I quite like Edge, apart from its lack of configuration options. If I Firefox doesn't want to work or it misbehaves I use an Open in Edge extension, it almost invariably works and doesn't misbehave. ![]() As one example as to how a vulnerability might exist is that an epub is pretty much a zip file containing a website. Therefore there is a difference in vulnerability between running scripts in an epub hosted by the website being browsed (Edge can open an epub directly without the user downloading it) and an epub that the computer user has downloaded from somewhere else (which Edge also will do). I am aware that there exist or have been recent script vulnerabilities in at least iBooks (uses Webkit?) and ADE (uses IE I think, it requires, or did require Internet Explorer to be installed?). Others likely have problems too. There-yer-are either some bait for someone who knows more to expand on ![]() ![]() |

One of the main omissions for me was ad blocking until Extensions appeared a while back (while we have unlimited internet data I use metered mobile data quite a lot too), and still needed is a tool for managing favorites (for the likes of editing their URLs) and so have been using the third party application EdgeManage which is good but inconvenient having to run that. |

Is there any way to disable Win 10 Edge from opening epubs?

Yes, right-click on an ePUB and choose 'Open with'. Then choose 'Select other app' and select the application you want to open the ePUB with. Don't forget to check the checkbox at the bottom indicating you want to use this program for ePUB's.
