I have to replace my NOOK Tablet BNTV250A
One issue I'm having is I tried to add a new OS to it and although I got it working, it is sluggish and slow. I simply can't handle using it anymore. As some of you know, Overdrive and any other apps were no longer supported by Barnes and Noble, that's why I went with a "developers" new OS to try on my Nook.
So now I'm determined to just buy another tablet. I have the newer Fire Tablet 7" but have never enjoyed it, it's just been a quick, cheap fix for me until I could buy something I would love like I did my Nook. Does anyone relate?? If so, I would love to hear some recommends on something that would be in my price-range of under a hundred dollars. I know that's not a lot these days, but it is what I have to spend. I am leaning towards another 7" screen (the Nook was actually 7.5). The enclosure measurements are 8 x 5 and I had bought a beautiful "expensive" book cover with the snap in clips. I would love to find something that would fit in that as most of the covers now have these silly rubbery bands and the tablet just flops around in there ![]() Anyway, I really want something with as many bells and whistles as I can get. Something someone else has bought, and loves ![]() Thanks for any help, Denise |

Look at the Lenovo Tab 3 7, 7'' IPS Tablet.
Covers tend to be device specific due to buttons and ports. A cover that fits one won't work on other models or brands. Under $100 with bells and whistles is tough. |

If you can find a Nexus 7 (2013), it's a very nice tablet and might not cost, being older. Mine is still rocking strong after almost 4 years. But it might be tricky to find one with a good battery. Though I will say, battery life has held up well on mine!
The screen is high resolution, so nice for reading and the tablet has camera, GPS, Bluetooth, all that good stuff. Runs Android Marshmallow. So quite decent for bells and whistles. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk Last edited by graycyn; 06-15-2017 at 06:34 PM. |

The Nook had a high resolution screen, a lot higher than the Fires, etc. I forget just what that resolution was but it was an excellent screen for text. Fires are pretty poor for text and so are most cheap tablets, even name brand ones. They tend to have the very low res screens that the Fires have.
Have you considered an e-ink reader. They're better for reading although they're pretty worthless for anything else. Another thing to consider, as long as a small screen doesn't bother you, is a cheap smartphone. I've read a lot of books on phones that I bought for just that purpose. My most recent one was a Motorola Moto E 2nd generation that I bought from Amazon for $40. I didn't use it as a phone and I never got service. I used it simply for reading. It has an excellent screen and everything worked beautifully. I stopped using that for reading when I got myself a real smartphone for phoning. I recently got a Samsung Galaxy S5 on sale for $200, brand new, and it's now my smartphone. It has an AMOLED display instead of LCD which is much gentler on my eyes. I prefer to read on e-ink but when I'm away I'm glad my book is on my phone. Barry |

Two tablets in the $100 range I can think of that the OP might want to look at (I think BestBuy carries them both if you have one near by) are the Samsung Galaxy Tab E Lite and the Asus ZenPad C. Both are 7" tablets and right around $100. Chances of finding something that will fit the cover custom designed for the Nook are slim though (although you might find a cover for a new device with a similar snap in holder instead of bands) Last edited by AnemicOak; 06-15-2017 at 10:44 PM. |

Ahh. I'd forgotten about the earlier Nook tablets. Thanks for the reminder.
You'd think I'd remember. I had one of them but that was a long time ago. Barry |

OP, have you considered a nicer Kindle tablet? I think the 8.9 inch one had a decent resolution. Or, you could see about getting a used Nook HD tablet. I think they're roughly the dimensions you want, they should be under $100 on eBay, and the screen resolution is good. They're discontinued so there's the usual risk you take with used tablets though. But I don't think you're going to find a new one that's a good buy for that money. |
