@free.kindle.com

I did some searching around, but only found anecdotal references to the username@free.kindle.com conversion process in other threads.

Ive used the free conversion process in the past with success, but have had difficulties with it lately. Is anyone else having problems?

I have sent various Word and PDF docs to the address without responses. I would use mobi pocket creator, but my office doesnt allow me to install any software, and I am trying to transport several volumes of data for a business trip. I have confirmed that the email addresses I am sending the documents from are on my approved list of email addresses on file with Amazon. If i cant figure this out I guess ill just send everything home and do the work there.

Does anyone know if there is a cap on the size of the documents Amazon will convert?

I have seen people mention a cap size on the documents, but not sure what that cap is.

Since Amazon has announced that they now convert PDF's without charge, perhaps they are expecting people to send PDF's for conversion to username@Kindle.com You might try that.

cheers

Hmm. I would still expect to be charged the 10 cent "shipping" fee on that conversion. The @free.kindle.com address should work for PDFs, if they are now converting them. Haven't converted anything lately -- too much good reading material available elsewhere.

I agree, there is a lot of great content out there...but that doesnt help much with getting work docs on there...ohh well. I think i must have reached the file size limit because i have tried sending it over whispernet as well.

i've seen postings in various places online attesting that people aren't being charged for whispernet-delivered pdf conversions via their @kindle.com addresses. i went ahead and tried it for myself yesterday, sending over a Whole Bunch (TM) of pdf files for a class, so i certainly hope the anecdotal evidence i've found is correct! i remember some of those postings stating they had found something official-looking on amazon saying that the $0.10 fee had been removed, but haven't tried to find anything official myself, yet.

edit: the listing for kindle itself on amazon still says: "This allows you and your contacts to e-mail Word documents and pictures wirelessly to your Kindle for only $.10. Kindle supports wireless delivery of unprotected Microsoft Word, HTML, TXT, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, PRC and MOBI files." i didn't find any official information about dropping the $0.10 fee, but i did find corroboration on thekindlechronicles.com, and kindleville.blogspot.com, where the writer says they specifically talked to kindle support about it and got confirmation that there would be no $0.10 fee. who knows? i'm choosing to act as if it's true, and you can bet you'll hear back from me if it isn't.

Well I sure don't know for sure but I do know that I have been sending documents (all kinds not just PDF) to my @kindle.com on a regular basis since last November and I have yet to see a charge. At one point I had heard that Amazon batched up the charges and charged you when the total reached $3.00 but I passed figure long ago.

Just an observation.
