Unable to sort series by number

I have three epub files, the John Dos Passos U.S.A. Trilogy. I've edited the metadata so the sort order of the author's name is Dos Passos, John for all three files. The series is The U.S.A. Trilogy, and I've checked to make sure it's exactly the same for all three files. The book titles are: The 42nd Parallel, 1919, The Big Money, in that order. When I sort by Series, 1919 The U.S.A. Trilogy [2] is listed first, then ten other books from other series, which are properly sorted in their series, and then The 42nd Parallel The U.S.A. Trilogy [1] and The Big Money The U.S.A. Trilogy [3]. I've edited the files with Sigil to make sure the author's name sort order is the same in all three files and I've tried deleting the series name and reentering it. I've also tried using the Manage Series plugin to make sure the series name is the same in all three. I can't figure out what to do next. It's not a serious problem with such a short series but it offends me aesthetically.

My guess is that the out-of-order book has a different "Language" value than the others, causing different processing of the article "The". Change the language or remove the "The" from the beginning.

That was it. Thanks. I never would have thought to look at that. I suppose I should take some time to run through the whole library and make sure the language is correct for all of them.

Open the Tag Browser: Languages
Do they look correct?
Are the counts reasonable? (You can click to see those books)

Oh, boy, thanks again. What a timesaver. I love Calibre. This is the way programmers should deal with user interfaces. Kovid Goyal is fantastic.
