iPad Kindle app to Calibre and Formats

Okay, so I'm new here. Trying to get my kindle books into the Calibre program. Here's my problem. I have tried taking the kindle files from my laptop files (Kindle app, content, etc) but when I view them they are stuck in the wide screen desktop format as opposed to looking like a regular page from a book (stretched and very oddly put together). Is there a better way to do this? I thought perhaps if I managed to get them off my iPad's kindle app they would come out better. Is there a way to do this? PS - I also am using DeDRM. That might affect stuff.

Are you using the Calibre viewer?
Just change the window size (aspect) until it looks correct

If you are a 2-up fan: in the viewer: Preferences (the tools icon): General (tab) Text Layout in paged mode (section): Number of pages to show
