4.3.8945 bug free?

Judging by the lack of any problems reported, can it be assumed thus far that 4.3.8945 is bug free for the KA1?

Thanks!

any developer that tells you their software is bug free is either lying to you, or is handing you a 'hello world' application and lying to you.

M, okay, as a former developer (among other things) myself I can't disagree.

My point was that, thus far at least, nothing alarming in the way of discrepancies has been reported thereby indicating a relatively safe firmware version.

only issue I've heard of affecting the KA1 on a large scale is reading stats still being glitchy.

@petercreasey: Each time there is a new firmware release, a thread is started in this forum to discuss it. It discusses what changes in functions, what was fixed, what wasn't fixed and what new bugs have been discovered. Please read that thread, and if you feel it is necessary, post the question there.

David, thanks for the tutorial! I understand.

I don't have as much time to spend here as some people (unfortunately), so, rather than reading through a long thread to see if there might be an applicable message, instead a pointed question on a particular slant serves a good purpose and can serve to produce an on-topic thread that's of interest to some (but maybe not you!?!).

Are you aware of any "serious" bugs other than the reading stats anomaly?

Thanks again for being customarily responsive!

I've not yet read of any major gotchas. But have a read of https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=284349 which is the main thread for 4.3.8945.

I am aware of no serious bugs that stop me from upgrading. But, there are people here who swear they will not upgrade for some reason or other. Hence, I have no idea if there is a bug that you consider to be serious enough not to upgrade. The best I can say is that I know of no bug that causes data loss or prevents you from using the device as it is intended. If you are worried, which you seem to be from the questions you are asking, you need to spend the time to do the research. Otherwise, just let the device handle it.

The reports are encouraging, so I'd upgrade if I were you. Either way, I have to say that I've been on this forum for a while now and 90% of the bugs I've seen reported by Kobo users are things I've never experienced, so unless there are new features in a firmware that you don't like or see a bug reported widely (e.g. the battery problems with the Aura One) I would just upgrade and see what happens.

David and m, yes, your thoughts and advice are sound.

Hopefully, 8945 is what I'll get with the kobo sync.

Thanks!

Why wait for a sync when you can get it now with a download and side load?

J, I don't at this time have the time or inclination to bone up on and take the needed measures/actions/risks/etc of anything beyond syncing on kobo.com.

The kobo syncing did indeed fix me up with 8945.

Glad your syncing worked. But to be honest, side loading the firmware is no more risky than syncing because you are using the same software to update the firmware. The only difference is how the files get on the device.

J, sorry but I suspect you have over-simplified. Side-loading might be (often is?) risky in that it might be installing update(s) that Kobo has not officially designated as being ready for release.

It's logical that one can trust that the releases syncing on kobo.com have been designated as officially ready.

Sorry, but that's just wrong. It gets posted here that others get the new firmware when synced and there is a website that you can use to see if the new firmware is released for your device. So really, you don't have anything to worry about.
