iLiad cases from M-edge are available for order

Given the apparent fragility of our pricey iLiads, it’s good news that the guys at M-edge have finally made their cases for the iLiad available for order. They’re currently offering two different models: Sleeve Jacket for $34.99 and the Book Jacket for $39.99. A Silicon jacket is slated for sale October 25th. Check them out. I’ve already put in my order. Credit to eChaz and Stuart Young who brought M-edge to our attention here and here. Last edited by raevyn1; 10-19-2006 at 07:26 AM. |

Which one did you guys order? The Sleeve Jacket looks like it doesnt have a cover for the screen. Also for the book jacket is it necessary to remove the iLiad from the jacket to turn it on/off? The lower part seems to be tucked into the jacket.

I ordered both actually, because I couldn't choose. I'm not sure if the Book Jacket allows access to the hub connection port or the on/off switch. I've put an email to the M-edge guys for the answer, but given the access on the Sleeve, I should think the Book Jacket would allow power switch access. It'd be a major pain to have to remove the iLiad from the Jacket everytime you need to turn it on/off. |

Additional details on iLiad cases by M-edge

Thanks to Raevyn1 for plugging us on this great forum! To answer some of your questions; 1) The sleeve jacket DOES have a clear vinyl sheet protecting the screen. 2) The bottom of the sleeve jacket allows access to the earphone port and on/off switch. To get to the charger port, you have to peel back the velcro closing flap. We're working to get some improved pics of the bottom. 3) The bottom of the book jacket allows full access to the earphone and charger ports and on/off switch without removing the iLiad. We put a new pic (http://www.buymedge.com/p_irexpics.html) on the website. Some general info: 1) We're working on a silicon sleeve style jacket that should be ready around the 25th of October. Colors are TBD. 2) Leather jackets are in the works too, but we don't have an ETA on them just yet 3) We look forward to hearing your comments and welcome your candid feedback so we can make the best jacket possible for the iLiad (and Sony Reader, too!). We don't mind throwing out some discount vouchers either...so keep the comments coming! Thanks, Team M-edge www.buymedge.com |

Welcome to the forums M-edge and thanks for offering to work with the community. One question about the book jacket...does it have a "hard" protection for the screen? Some users have had problems with pressure-damaged screens and it would be nice to have a stiff frontplate on the cover to prevent that from happening. One other thing...I live in Germany...is there any chance of getting those covers you are offering here? |

The screen needs to be protected from pressure from fingers while being carried or other objects while stored. A solid sheet of Lexan, fiber board, or for a high end case - aluminum would truly offer protection for the screen. In addition, for colder climates, the Li-ion battery and e-Ink panel would appreciate a bit of insulation to keep them warm longer during transit. An extra $$$ option for a simple LCD temperature strip (the same material used in mood rings) on the inside of the case so one could check how cold its getting would be thoughtful.

It would be thicker, more expensive and more fragile. But you could use one if you want. |

Scotty, the tech specs state: Operating temperature is 0°C to 50°C. Storage temperature is –20°C to 70°C. What have you found is the real range and what do you suggest for cold weather protection? I know this is slightly OT, but my iLiad stays at home until I can protect it better which I hope the M-edge cases will do. It's gotta beat the case iRex gave us |

Shaped like a book! Perhaps plastic with leather(like) coating. Good solid screen protection when closed. With title "Iliad" of course. If possible include a "stand" (picture frame like) in the back, so the iLiad may be put on a desk or table standing up. Last edited by adbosch; 10-23-2006 at 09:50 AM. |

It's around $2, flexible, and uses that colored liquid crystal stuff you were talking about, my concern is that I don't think it has enough range to tell whether it's too cold, as they only go down to 65° F Last edited by NatCh; 10-23-2006 at 03:23 PM.

				Shipping

We ship internationally... The Sleeve Jacket isn't going to provide great protection against high impact hits to the screen; however, it will protect against abrasions. The Book Jacket is your best bet to protect against harder hits to the screen. Note, we're adding a business card pocket to the left side of the Book Jacket and a holder for the stylus or a pen. Any other suggestions? Help yourself to some free shipping through tomorrow, 10/24 at 1100EDT. Use code "ship_free". |
