PDFs on Kindle Paperwhite??

I sometimes have large PDFs - might be a book, might be a long article. If I put it into Calibre it kindly, and automatically, converts it to MOBI.

I'm wondering if a better solution would be to put the PDF, either as I get it, or in someway improved, on my Kindle. I'm not sure the conversion to MOBI is an improvement, and may make the document harder to read.

So:
- Is this a good idea??
- How can I tell Calibre to not convert the PDF to MOBI?
- How can I tell Calibre that the Kindle can read PDFs? (Which Amazon says they can, though I have never tried it)

Thanks, and apologies if this is the wrong forum.

.
Configure the driver (easiest to access from the device icon, when connected) to include formats:AZW4
ALSO
do a Manual convert PDF to AZW4 (you must choose on the Right) so the 'auto' (wrong) does not choose Mobi or AZW3 the best default for EPUB.
