Paperwhite recharging light keeps going out

I hope you can help me. When I charge my Paperwhite which I gpt almost 2 years ago, my recharging light won't stay lit. It stays lit if I'm right in front of it, but if I take a few steps to the left, the power light goes out and it stops charging. My computer won't find the USB at all, and it doesn't recognize my Kindle at all. I'm wondering if it's the USB port that's the problem. Sometimes if my husband taps on it, the light will come back on and it will charge, and I just got some new USB cables, but the computer's still not seeing the Kindle, so the USB cables aren't the problem. And the battery also seems to run down awfully fast. I seem to have to recharge it every day. Does this mean my battery is petering out and needs to be replaced. I am out of the Amazon Warranty, but I got the extended warranty from SquareTrade. Do you think I should file a claim, and what if I don't have my Kindle box anymore. How do I ship it to the SquareTrade people to get it fixed. My warranty is good till next March. I'm feeling frustrated here about the charging light. the port seems a little loose and I don't know if the USB end for the Kindle is going all the way in.

Can anyone help?

Use a wall charger or try a new cable. It sounds almost like a wire is broke in the cable.
Ok new cables.
File a claim to get a new one.

She said she already tried a different cable and the problem still occurred. Thus, it's seeming like a Kindle issue.

Have you tried connecting it to another computer? It is possible that the USB port on the computer isn't functioning correctly.

Unfortunately, I only have the one computer, so I recharge it with the adapter from Amazon and the cables they recommended. I'll work on filing a claim then. Already worried about Kindle withdrawal

Also working on getting a new computer. This one is about 6 years old, and Vista support is ending in April, so working on Windows 7 Professional if I can get it. One of the USB ports on the computer is acting funny.

Restart your Kindle and everything should be OK. Happened to me two times already.

Yeah, all three USB cables work, but the charging light goes out intermittenly. I started using a power strip, and it doesn't go out as much, just a couple of times. Hope that helps.

I'll give that a try. Thanks. Charge gets used up kinda fast, but at least the wall charger works. And it restarts while charging, though not as much lately. Should that be a hard restart or a menu restart, though?

Get Windows 10. Then you won't have to worry about support expiring like it will with Windows 7. You go Windows 7, you'll only end up with Windows 10 once support is ending for Windows 7. It's better to cut out a step and go Windows 10. There's no need to go to Windows 8 instead of WIndows10.

What Amazon usually does is send you the another Kindle and then you send back the defective Kindle.

First, I'm kinda attached to a program that I can't use on Windows 10-PrintMaster Platinum 18. It uses the 1.1 net framework which with jumping through a few hoops, I can install on Windows 7. Windows 10, not so much from what I've read, and hoping to be able to use it with the XP mode. I am planning to get Windows 10 on another partition.

Second, I'm on an extended warranty with SquareTrade, but I don't have the original box to ship back my old Kindle; will that be a problem , do you think?

I'll have to call Squaretrade to file a claim. Kinda nervous. Sometimes the power strip works, and then sometimes the light goes out and it won't work at all, until I use a different outlet on the strip, then it works again. Kinda frustrating. So far it's working again. The charging is in and out.

A friend bought a Square Trade 2 year warranty on a tablet and the tablet died a week before the warranty ended. She called Square Trade, sent the tablet to them and she had her replacement in less than a week. When she got it she'd already bought a new model so I ended up with her replacement in a trade and it's been fine. It's probably refurbished but there's no sign that it is. It came in a new box with all the accessories.

They asked no questions. They simply sent the replacement. They're a good company.
