Auto-Identify Polished Books
I was wondering if there was a way to auto-identify a polished books so that I don't accidentally merge or delete it with another of the same title.
I am not interested in keeping the "original" formats, so that is out. I don't think that there would be a Job Spy column protection that would be allow me to continue editing the rest of the library. I could use an Icon, but those are not permanent enough. I am looking for a way to auto-populate a "details" (comma separated like tags) column. Any suggestions would be appreciated so that I don't bug the developers to add it as a feature to the polish function. Many thanks in advance ![]() |

There is no way to check if a book has been polished. There is no way to auto-fill in a column to say a book has been polished. The best solution is to create a custom column and manually fill in the column to say a book has been polished. A Y/N column would be best.

That was what I was kind of thinking that would happen. I am always going back and re-editing various books that I have created or merged and since polishing is the last step in that process I was hoping to figure out a way to keep from losing the book once it's "perfect".
I like a Y/N but it doesn't seem so permanent. I most likely will forget about it because I will hide the column from the general view. I already have too many y/n. I need to figure out a way to get this in the title, like an asterisk or something. Thanks for at least letting me know that there is no "auto" option. I just went in and set the tweak to save the original file when I polish them. Since it will only save on polishing I won't have a bunch of original files from simple conversions.
Thanks to whomever offered that specific tweak. |

One other option is to create a new library. When you finish all your edits/polishing, copy the book to the new library and you'll know because the book is in that library.

So remember, if you want to edit or polish again, delete the Original ePub before you do so. |

@Rellwood: I use the Reading List plugin for something like this. I have lists called "Cleaning" and "Cleaned". If I need to do extensive work, I add it to the "Cleaning" list. When finished, which usually means I have read the book, I move it to the "Cleaned" list. These also modify a tag-like column for the book status. I use other lists for things like the reading status and these populate the status column as well.

It would be really useful if one could associate a keyboard shortcut with a yes/no custom column. Then one could highlight the book and toggle the Y/N column by pressing the relevant keystroke
FX if Rellwood had a Y/N custom column called Polished, he might associate it with ctrl+shift+p. I've tried using AHK and PTFB, they can be made to work but they bring a raft of issues with them, that I prefer to live without. BR |

Polish may leave fingerprints in the books OPF.
All you need to do is figure out how to interpret (differentiate them from other Calibre usage) them . The quality check PI can flag some standard 'Calibre' involvements |

my work around is run epub page count only after book has been polished
so IF page count exists THEN i must have polished the book as I want page counts anyway, I don't need an extra column to show polished ( actually I use the older " modify epub" which I think still has more options* than the newer" polish" but principle is the same: modify/polish, then page count it * for example it strips redundant spans, often left behind if I regex out unnecessary classes |
