Prime Will Be Streaming Thursday Night NFL Games.
According to an article today on TechConnect, the technology information website of IDG.
It seems like that there are not many MobileReaders who are also football fans, but who knows? So, I'm going ahead and posting this. Oddly, the article says that "Thursday night NFL games now stream on Amazon Prime (emphasis mine, G)." However, even NFL preseason games don't start until August or so, I think. Exactly what kind of NFL games are being streamed now? That's why put "will be" in the title of this thread. Anyway, the article goes on to say that "Thursday Night Football games are dumping Twitter for Amazon Prime." If Prime will be streaming NFL games in real time, then this is a great new benefit to Prime members. Not good enough to get me to re-join, but more tempting . . . . The full article is here. |

A year ago, and I would have rejoiced in this news. I no longer follow the NFL due to their emphasis on political statements rather than focus on the game. The hours previously wasted on the NFL are now spent reading.

To my father's great disappointment, I have never been interested in sports. This is just one more way for me not to watch them.

Quote:
I do remember Bob Costas on some sports show about 3 years ago spending our time (about 2 or 3 minutes of it) telling us what the government ought to do about a certain political issue. And, no, it had nothing to do with sports (except in a very, very remote way that Costas probably didn't even have in mind). What I did notice (who could miss it) is the making of political statements by winners on various awards shows. That's the biggest reason that I don't watch those shows anymore. Question: just because someone can do a good job pretending to be someone else (i.e., acting), or belting out some songs, what makes them an expert on politics? End of my comments on this thread about that. |

I only watch a few football games a year. The Superbowl is one, and others only if something interesting is happening with my College team which I normally consider unlikely. However after this past year with our basketball teams, who knows?
So that has no effect on my Prime membership, which I value much more than any football viewing. |

The NFL is only as "political" as you allow it to be. I watch every game my favorite team plays and I've never had to deal with any unwanted political/social commentary. Perhaps that's because I choose to only watch football games, rather than football news, or sports opinion shows.
Watch only the games instead of NFL Countdown, ESPN Gameday, or Joe (I'm-An-Expert-On-All-Things-Sports) Blow's Sports O' Rama and Fantasy Football Guide Show, and you won't get (hardly) any political/social commentary. The downside of 24-hour sports TV/radio is that time needs to be filled. The good news is that fans aren't obligated to watch (or listen to) the non-sports sports driveling/sniveling. I think Thursday Night Football is an abomination to begin with, so I don't really care who gets the TV/streaming contract. |

They need to worry about shortening the games. I don't watch any 8:30 games because they run til almost midnight and I have work in the morning.

This has no connection with MR's areas of interest, so moved to the Lounge.

Well I gave up on NFL a long time ago. It was different game in the 1960s when I first started watching. But I get tired of multi-millionaire players whining like babies, greedy owners who only care about the profit, cities stupid enough to pay for billionaire owners' new multi-billion dollar stadiums, so many rules that you have to consult a room full of lawyers to determine if it was indeed a penalty, challenges to every other play that turn a 60 minute game into a 4+ hour sleep fest, and moron fans who are too stupid to care about any of the above.... Meh, the NFL sucks now. I will watch a few games each year just to socialize with friends, but I rarely watch one when I'm home alone. I already have Prime, but I doubt I will watch any Thursday night NFL.
