No Flowers for the General by the late British author Basil Copper (ISFDB, SYKM, Wikipedia, obituary at The Guardian), perhaps best known for his contributions to the Solar Pons series which was a popular Sherlock Holmes pastiche back in the day, is the 3rd novel in the Mike Faraday series of vintage crime mysteries starring the eponymous gritty P.I. in California, this installment another one taking him away from L. A. to the small town of Mudville, where there is presumably no joy (with or without a baseball defeat), especially in the wake of a missing persons case which escalates into serial murder, free courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press's Venture imprint, who are e-printing it from its 1967 edition originally out from Robert Hale.
We've previously received the 1st & 2nd in the series as freebies as well. Currently free @ Amazon (currently stubborn to drop for Canadians but already free in the UK and should eventually also be pretty much everywhere else that Amazon sells worldwide, since this is being done via their KDP Select exclusive-or-else program) If you happen to like this series and wish to read more, you might like to know that there are 40+ books in it, which apparently Endeavour has gotten the rights to reprint the lot of, and they do tend to hold helpful 99 cent sales and similar Kindle Countdown offers (not available to Canadians), which you might want to keep an eye out for. Description Mike Faraday, a private eye, is hired to travel from his native Los Angeles to a small town named Mudville, population 6,000. It may call itself ‘The Friendliest Town in the World’, but Mike Faraday is about to find out for himself just how wrong that statement is. He’s been requested to investigate a missing persons case, but soon his investigation takes a sinister turn… Soon, a body appears. Then another, and another. This murderer has a penchant for ice-picks, and shows no sign of stopping. And it seems that a local General might be next on the serial killer’s list… With the corpse count mounting, the suave P.I must overcome his toughest challenge yet, and endure some truly gory events if he is going to solve this case. Basil Copper’s No Flowers for the General is a gripping thriller. This is a page-turner you won’t want to put down. Last edited by ATDrake; 01-16-2017 at 06:27 AM. |

This book looks very interesting, but as JSWolf would say the formating makes Phoenix Pick look professional. Every word is wrapped in span tags--as in more that one.
edit example paragraph Spoiler:
This publisher is costing themselves money by making the size of there ebooks more that twice the size they should be, remember Amazon charges download fees by the megabyte. bernie Last edited by gbm; 01-21-2017 at 02:09 PM. Reason: added example paragraph |
