How do I merge two libraries?

I have Calibre libraries on two different computers and want to merge them. I have no idea how.

I've searched the thread for guidance, but the most recent posts I can find on merging two libraries say:

You need at least 2 (or more) Libraries (the others need to show on the Quick Switch list) to get the context option

I see an option to create/switch library, but I don't understand the choices.

Copy to library means copy it to the Calibre library directly. If you have dups, you might want to use a utility like Fast Copy that can set to not send dups. The easy alternative is to mark all you are copying (^A ^C) and the go into the destination library and paste. You'll be prompted if it is a dup.

OK, thank you both; I think my brain fog has cleared now and I am in the process of getting the two libraries merged!

There is/are PREFERENCE settings to handle Duplicates when copying between Libraries
preferences:adding books (main tab): mainly Items 2 and 3



BTW I do NOT recommend using any OS copy tool, those do not maintain the Calibre DB

BTW If Calibre CAN switch between existing Libraries, you Toolbar preferences may need readjusting

Add Copy to Library to the CONTEXT menu(s) Remember, there are separate settings for When a device is attached (or not)

Thanks, but this is all beyond me. I didn't bother about duplicates; I just wanted everything conglomerated and will worry about cleaning up the mess and editing the metadata later. Everything now does seem to be on one computer and in one Calibre library.

I'm not using any device in conjunction with Calibre and don't expect to.

Then you can pretty much ignore adding features to the 'When Connected' versions of the toolbar menus

@Catlady - you'd probably find the Find Duplicates plugin useful in cleaning up the duplicates.

Thanks, that does look useful. Right now, though, I'm just going through the titles manually, in stages, editing the metadata at the same time. It's giving me a chance to rediscover books I'd forgotten I had ever picked up!
