Library Display showing DRM?
I'm new here, but some initial searches are not showing what I seek.
Is there a way for the Caliber Library display to indicate if an EBook in the library is DRM? I have a bunch of books from Amazon that are (about 500), and a number of EBooks from other sources that are not (about 400). I got a new Paper White Kindle for Christmas from my kids and I have run into that "Owner" problem when I try to load the new Kindle from Calibre ! Thanks Rod |

1) (optional) use the quality check Plugin to detect which have DRM
2) flag (tag) those 3) add an icon. Preferences: Look and Feel: Column Icons: <create rule to match your tag> |

Thanks Mr. Ducks for the quick reply.
I installed the Plugin and Used it to check a couple of books that I know were from Amazon, but the plugin did not detect any thing about DRM. To clarify, I always download to the PC from Amazon first, and then using the "Add Books" tool load and convert as necessary to the Calibre Library. I'm not deep into Calibre so I use all of the default setings. ROd |

Brian,
I built my Calibre Library on an old Kindle Keyboard model, loading books to it from calibre. I just recieved a new Kindle White and when I move books from the library to the new device it errors out when I attempt to open it, with a message about a different "file owner". Research on this forum points me at DRM being the problem. The only way I can load successfully to the new device is to logon to Amazon and send the collection files to the new device. TEDIOUS ! I am trying to find a way to identify those files. Thanks Rod |

I get what you're trying to do, I was just saying not all Amazon files have DRM. You didn't say if the couple of books you tried the quality check plugin (not sure if this works on all formats?) on were ones giving you DRM errors on the new device.
Not sure if the old DRM Check script would be of help here or not? https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=121387 Any reason you're not just removing the DRM from all of your books so you don't have to deal with it ever again? |

File Ownership may be an OS Level complaint (or file permissions).
Leaving Calibre out of the picture: Can you just do an OS copy to the desktop (or temp folder)? |

Brian, That DRM Check Script looks interesting but I am afraid it is way over my head. I will have to study on it while.
Ducks, I found and lost a thread dated around 2011 on a problem similar to mine, I will attempt to find it again, I think it was under Devices. It stated that somehow Amazon keys the files to your default device ID through DRM, however that works. Even though my owner ID is the same on both devices. That seems to be the Catch 22. The only solution suggested there was to go back to Amazon and redownload the affected files to the new device. Unfortunately I have 880 ebooks loaded to Calibre, about 550 from Amazon. I need to find a way to identify the bad ones of fix them, if at sll possibe. Otherwise it's pot luck and kind of defeats my purpose for using Calibre. Thanks Rod |

Update: I have just discovered, quite by accident, that if you attempt to view a book from the Library using Calibers' EBook Viewer that it will error out with a message stating that the book is DRM.
Not exactly what I want, but I can check books individually as I load them this way. Rod |
